Here's something that's brightened up my weekend: a robot programmed to pogo to punk.
"The robot brain, for want of a better word, was played lots of punk, reggae, disco and classical and over a period of time the robot has learned to recognise and appreciate the patterns of sound in punk music," he said. The neural network understands the music in a similar way to a human brain, breaking down the sound into a series of frequency bands. The robots were pogoing at the Neuro... MORE
Formed in 1987, disbanded in 2001, Terrorvision where a popular UK Pop-Metal band although their biggest hit was novelty record Tequilla released after being pushed by Radio 1 DJ, Zoe Ball.

Who would have thought that a band that had just lost its songwriter, key instrumentalist, and leader would have been able to continue without so much as an electronic blip? Most of the press thought that Depeche Mode were a dead duck without the influence of mentor in Chief Vince Clarke, who bizarrely decided to quit following the success of 1981’s "Speak And Spell" and form a duet with Soul singer Alison Moyet in the short lived but highly regarded Yazoo. So the... MORE
Few Hip Hop artists spoke as eloquently as Michael Franti in 1992. He seemed to have a take on everything; consumerism, multiculturalism, capitalism, were just some of the issues he had a grip on, and his unique "Newscaster" style delivery added to the sense of knowledge and authority. Teaming up with musician Rono Tse, the pair holed up in a garage in darkest Oakland California, and set about creating a collection of Franti’s measured Rap examinations, supported ... MORE
I would like to preface this by saying that ABBA should only be allowed to be played during the following occasions: 1. high school prom, 2. wedding reception and 3. late night at a gay dance club. That being said, I was at neither of these today but rather at my local IKEA to do a little shopping and to get in out of the 100 degree weather we had in Minnesota today. I guess someone at IKEA thought it would be a cute idea to play ABBA, and only ABBA over the loud spe... MORE
On Thursday I had another sweltering day of summer school. I say sweltering because the temperatures here in Minnesota are nearing the mid 90's and the school I am teaching at has no air conditioning what so ever. By the time the kids arrive at 8:30 in the morning I usually have a good sweat going, and the sun has not even really come up yet. Every teacher knows as well that once the heat goes up outside, it stays that way in the classroom until the fall. The school buildings... MORE
Venetian Snares is the main performing alias of Canadian electronic musician Aaron Funk. Funk's label debut was 1999s 12" vinyl EP, Greg Hates Car Culture. Prior to this, he had being self-releasing material on cassette tape since 1992.
Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Funk is known for making avant-garde electronic music often in odd numbered time signatures and using classical samples. A prolific artist, having released records on the History of the Future, Isolat... MORE
The retro resurgence of Hip-Hop isn’t a new deal, so The Cool Kids (Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish) refine and pinpoint their stylistic affection and influence to 1988 for some form of individuality. With their gaudy gold ropes, Starter jackets, and high top trainers, the Chicago boys are faithfully rooted in the fashions of the time. For new devotees to their music, it’s not exactly new either. Much of "The Bake Sale E.P." has been floating around on... MORE
