The rain is coming now and it doesn't seem to be letting up. Soon it will be snow with the certain air of whimsy that brings, but right now it's that constant, drizzling, oppressive rain. Good thing too because i've been seriously jonesing for a Bonnie Prince Billy fix.
It's been some time since his last proper release... and I've been worried that I might be left empty handed (sorry Kanye, but that video doesn't count)...the sky keeps on darkening... but lo, what's this? News that Will Oldham has collaborated with minimalist songstress Scout Niblett on her upcoming release? Can it be? Did I really say "lo" back there?
The rumors are true enough, and the evidence is "Kiss", the perfect song for chlorophyll deprived, ever dripping leaves. Scouts bare voice with Oldham's raw, fragile timbre are an imperfectly perfect compliment to one another.
We may not have a solo album from the "Prince" any time soon... but like an exotic spice, he enhances any mix he's added too... (as long as you have acquired the taste for it). Collaboration is a role that suits him well.
So if you're feeling the autumn darkening, this song won't necessarily cheer you up, but at least it will help you be depressed in style.

Interesting input from Mr Oldham... Still, I'm not fully convinced by this song. It calls for re-re-listening I guess.
Thanks for the review which I found most pleasurable.

Thanks for this. I like the song very much - the video that goes with it is brilliant, too.
"The perfect song for chlorophyll deprived, ever dripping leaves" - well, indeed. Quite. Nicely put. And you're spot on about the superbly complimentary vocal timbres.
