And there are many to be fed. The bell sounds tonight for a last call at summer. Herald this years labor day funeral. I am marveling at how naive I had been in May, so young and reckless. But now, BU has officially moved in its' class of 2009 and this means it is no longer as safe at it had been in the depths of humid doldrums. Everything slows and cycles at a pace of sluggish momentum. With fall, it is time to act busy again, settle b... MORE
I've been back for a full thirty hours and I had to share something with you guys... I don't think this was part of any of the Olympic coverage over here. In Beijing, this song and music video was everywhere...playing in shops, restaurants, parks, the subway. It features I don't know how many local celebs and singers in so many different locations around Beijing (a lot of which I went to). I'm convinced the onl... MORE
MTV runs their VMAs every year, and this year, even indie kids like myself have a reason to watch. That one reason is a performance from Black Lips, King Khan and The Shrines, and Deerhunter. Fantastic. Here are the will and should wins. Video of the Year Nominees Chris Brown-"Forever", Jonas Brothers "Burnin' Up", Pussycat Dolls, "When I Grow Up", Britney Spears, "Piece of Me", The Ting Tings "Shut Up and Let Me Go" Should: This category gets worse with each yea... Well boo! I was going to post the tagged song but I'm getting no love from the MOG uploader. Specifically, I got an Error #2938 message, whatever that means. I guess the video for "Love Song" will have to suffice: In any case, Cruel Black Dove are a Brooklyn band that, despite little more than a year of formation, are making a lot of noise, at least in my eardrums. There's something immensely satisfying in their bluesy swagger, and their lead singer's clearly g... MORE
1. Joni Mitchell, "Night Ride Home." Greatest ever cameo appearance by a cricket. 2. Cypress Hill, "How I Could Just Kill a Man." All he wanted was a Pepsi. 3. U2, "One." It's kinda like when Obama gets fired up with the flowing rhetoric ... I don't trust it, but I can't resist it. This is the kind of ballad by a too-pretentious band that I should hate. But I can't resist it. 4. John Prine, "It's a Big Old Goofy World." In a perfect world, John Prine would be considered... MORE
Ronnie's harsh, hoarse, but finally well-trained voice is put to perfect use, as it's less pretentious and a bit more 'user-friendly' than Jagger's: when you hear it, you know you're in for a good rock'n'roll party time. His guitar plaing is unparalleled: he lets loose with such a tremendous force that it really gives the impression he'd always been muffled by Keith as a Stone. All in all, a quality double cd's worth of tuneage
With anyone but himself... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh His name is Justin Currie & I am just chipping away at the tip of the iceberg with him... I saw him on Live at Abbey Road tonight with Ben Harper (another lover of mine)... but this Justin Currie - is quite simply GENIUS... He's from the band Del Amitri & for me - it's his solo songs that have got me all a flutter - nothing against DA... but his solo album is to KILL MAME & DIE FOR !!!

He became a star when he joined Faces, where his role was curiously similar to Keith's in the Stones, and by then he was already an established songwriter, alone and in collaboration with the likes of Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Lane, Bobby Womack, and many others. Wood's important role in the making of classic albums like (the Beck Group's) "Truth", as well as Stewart's five absolute best ever solo albums (the ones that made him famous, for the Mercury label in 1969 - ... It is impossible to appreciate Ron Wood's music and muscianship to the fullest without the context of the original albums. Buying every single album Ron Wood has ever been part of, however, is obviously not cost effective for the casual fan. So the compilation "albums" are the next best thing. Every music fan needs to have a little Woodie in their collection. That being said, "Essential Crossexion" is arguably the best Ron Wood compilation available; & a great place to st... MORE
I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and I got a little surprise today as I logged onto MOG after a long day of school. The posts that I thought were lost found their way back to my page so I want to start off by saying thank you to the fine folks of MOG. That being said, it is the weekend and for teachers this means the last weekend of summer freedom. I finished up getting my room ready today, and had my open house last night. In all 17 kids showed up to see t... MORE
The hook brings you back. Some things are here, and then they're gone. Some music careers last as long as an NFL season. The music landscape we love is dotted with the detritus of broken dreams and bankrupt ideas. Major & minor masterpieces lost, waylayed by Lady Luck. I cannot tell you much about Jesse Gresham Plus 3. An anonymous single in a forgotten stack, picked at random. It sorta fit the Funky Friday Thang. OK that may be stretch. But give ole Jess... MORE
The most painful parts of watching the olympics last week was putting up with MSNBC coverage during the daytime hours when NBC was showing soaps or local news. Really horrible live TV. The interactions between Tiki Barber and his co-host Tara somebody were mind numbingly stupid and catty. However, I didn't realize until just now surfing around, the extent to which the on-air ill will went - watch the video - it starts with a brief clip from earlier followed by some disc... MORE
No stranger to even the most common of reggae listeners, Jimmy Cliff is the subject of the day. Jimmy Cliff released his best record in my opinion in Wonderful World, Beautiful People in 1970. The record was a precursor to his reggae classic and star movie appearance, The Harder They Come (one of the best Jamacian films ever) released two years later. Cliff was born in St. Catherine, Jamaica, on April 1, 1948, as James Chambers. At 14 Cliff moved to Kingston were he recor... MORE
