MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:

Following Bjork's perfomance in Shanghai earlier this year, in which the singer led the crowd to chant "Tibet! Tibet!" after performing "Declare Independence", China has cracked down on overseas performers who stand to "threaten national unity", "whip up ethnic hatred", "violate religious policy or cultural norms" or "advocate obscenity or feudalism and superstition."

All performances must be approved before-hand, right down to the set-lists. This ban comes just in time for the Olympics, which are expected to raise protest worldwide.

And you thought your 11 pm curfew was bad.

dude this is ridiculous. The sad part is the Chinese can't even read about this change or this protest - because this sort of 'controversial' news is BARRED from view on the web.

You guys have no idea on what is actually happening in China, do you? There are those in the local music industry who are actually trying to work within the parameters and making the music industry work in China instead of simply throwing stones and running away which is exactly what Bjork did.

Read the reaction to Bjork's antics here:

@Neill - get a grip...your ignorance is shameful

@John - the set list problem happened to Harry Connick Jr, a week plus after the Bjork fiasco - read it in the above Music2.0 link

@p-wagz - Rage in a Million Years? Did you know that Public Enemy, New York Dolls, Nine Inch Nails, Testament, Ramones, Lacrimosa all performed in China in the last 2 years.
