Dolphins Save Surfer from Shark

Amazing. Dolphins save surfer from becoming shark’s bait A pod of bottlenose dolphins helped protect the severely injured boarder Surfer Todd Endris needed a miracle. The shark — a monster great white that came out of nowhere — had hit him three times, peeling the skin off his back and mauling his right leg to the bone. That’s when a pod of bottlenose dolphins intervened, forming a protective ring around Endris, allowing him to get to shore, where quick first a... MORE

A song like Jessica Simpson - beautiful but stupid

(15)
Blog post image preview
This song by the Beach Boys came up on the iPod yesterday, producing an unusually schizophrenic reaction, i.e.: 1) This song is so bee-YOO-ti-ful 2) Wow, this song is SO stupid I would venture a guess that means that Brian Wilson wrote the music and Mike Love wrote the lyrics. I mean, crying over a CAR? Come on!

Who Has Rhapsody?

(2)
Blog post image preview
Since joining MOG about 3 months ago and realizing the integration with Rhapsody, I wondered how many Moggers actually have Rhapsody and can take advantage of the Yellow Buttons??? I personally would not live without an online music service. It's literally like having a record store and an endless music discovery engine on your PC. You can listen to just about any artist you like, whenever you like. Whatever you want to own, you can buy from Rhapsody or iTunes, or you ... MORE

In this post you missed, because you thought it was about Phish, which it wasn't (they were more of a tertiary character within the grand scheme of the post), I opened it up a bit about the importance of the jam in my life.
How appropriate that I would come across this article by Joshua Allen at The Morning News, in which he tells us just why 2:42 is the perfect song length. Here's a snippet:
"What else is at 2:42? “Don’t Do Me Like That” by Tom Petty. “Divine Hammer” by th... MORE

Well color me tickled pink. I have found the nexus where my need for visual information and facts combine. I had been working on some graphic design to chart the rise of what I call "The New Popular Sound" in music. TNPS genesis comes somewhere between The Beatles "Rubber Soul" and The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds albums. This is the time in which I think a new definition of rock and popular music was redefined, and in a sense, these albums are still influencing and changin... MORE

Well Then...

(14)

...If we're gonna be all obsessed and shit with Brian Wilson, I really like this intrumental from previously mentiond Pet Sounds album.  I think this song just sounds like the sixties, caught right as America was falling headlong into those unsure and troubled times.  This song is like the soft spot in a gray sky.

In Meinem Zimmer

Artist:
Album:
Track: In My Room - (German version, bonus track)
(1)
Often bands, in order to receive more airplay in overseas markets, artists would record their hits in another laguage.  German was a popular choice for the european markets back in the day.  The Beatles did it with I Want To Hold Your Hand, and She Loves You.  Here, The Beach Boys do it with In My Room.  We've had talk of this song before on the Mog, just throwin it out thre again, it's worth a second listen.

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Fathers Day. My 10 year old has been out of school for a week. Generally hes a good kid. However he has been trying to see just how far he can go.Yesterday I had to sit him down and explain the concept of grounding to him.I could see the wheels turning seeing how he could skate by this one but we shall see.Oh the trials we must face.

I Want My MP3: The Beach Boys Rehearsing

Artist:
Album:
Track:
(356)
Time to celebrate the summer that's finally arrived! If Carl Wilson has the voice of an angel, what does a heavenly choir sound like? In 1967 in Hawaii, group rehearsals for a Beach Boys TV show were taped (though I’ve read disagreements from collectors and trufans over the exact circumstances of these recordings). Here’s a virtually acapella version of “God Only Knows”. To hear Carl promoting his solo album, go hear.

I hate it when I get this song stuck in my head at work. I just keep hearing "go home" over and over in my head. It's counter productive!

school is almost out!!!  yippee!  the kids asked me when we will celebrate summer birthdays.  then they asked me what we will do for summer birthdays and as a joke i said we will have a dance-off and they got SOOOOOOOOOO excited.  kind of scary.  well let's see if they can put on a real dance-off in the spirit of dance 360!  RIP.  i miss that show.  did anyone else watch it?  i loved the noisemeter they had--a very scientific tool for measuring the audience's applause.  al... Summer's Coming: The Beach Boys' Sail On, Sailor by Request

(42)
Blog post image preview A fellow mogger asked me to post this 1973 single from the The Beach Boys' Holland LP and I am happy to do so. The interesting backstory that has emerged on this song is that Van Dyke Parks claims to have written the bulk of it, following along with some snippets that Brian Wilson put down on a tape recorder. Whatever the origin, it is the last great Beach Boys single in my book.

"Reborn" After The Crash

(5)
Well, I just got started mogging last Saturday and some people were loving my music discoveries. And then poof, Sunday my page and posts have disappeared. I read the post from David Hyman and waited to see if Mog support would restore my page, but after 5+ days- nothing. So I re-joined today and will be rebuilding my page. I guess we'll just have to wait to see if my previous posts ever rise from the digital ashes of the crash. Hopefully David and IT will be able to r... MORE
