Stereolab Phoenix Concert Review

Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy! Excuse the histrionics and the cheap nod to Ginsburg, please. Perhaps I shouldn’t have been so excited about seeing a band which has over the years dropped the qualifier from its label "experimental pop." Chemical Chords is a good album but compared with one of my favourites, Dots and [...] Related posts:

Blog post image preview [Stereolab - Vodiak / 3:19]
Back in March of this year, a group of musicians (including Beth Ditto, Richard Ashcroft, Sugababes, the Enemy and Pearl Lowe) teamed up to make a musical version of the "consequences game" in aid of the homeless charity Crisis. Each artists would pick up a composition from where the previous ended. (Read more about it here) I would like to invite you to play the same game but with songs and following the rules below (adapted from these)

Meghan McCain and Stereolab: What Is Going on Here?

Hey, it's been awhile. Let's check in with Meghan McCain's blog. What has Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain's daughter been listening to lately?

Let's see. She's been rocking some Tokyo Police Club, some Klaxons, some Au Revoir Simone. A Hot Chip remix of the Pharcyde. All right. And... what's this?

OK, let me get this straight. For a blog post about her father's debate with Democratic Presidential Cand... MORE

I've litterly waited so patiently for some more STEREOLAB.....and it is here.....a new album..and now I noticed that they will be about a four hour drive away, playing LIVE in a week....I am going to rush out early and take a mini-road trip and catch this show.  It has been ten years since I've seen STEREOLAB live.  In fact, when I saw them perform, Mary was still alive.  She died in a bicycle accident in England.  They took a few years without recording anything new, wond... Stereolab is what would be playing in elevators if elevators were awesome. I in no way mean that as an insult. I love Stereolab. They are a wonderful jumble of noise, irrepressible happiness, and french. They're just always background music, to me. Stereolab and Fantastic Plastic Machine (and, to a lesser degree, Pizzicato 5) occupy the space of background music for me, perfet for listening to as I do a few things around the house, read a book, or take a long drive somewhe... For Groon.

Blog post image preview I got acquainted with Stereolab back in the mid 90's. I was really burnt out on metal (at the time). Everyone was doing grunge or trying to sound like Nirvana or acoustipop crap, or just really horrible death metal. And I was done with it for a bit. The record store we used to have was playing this one day when I walked in and I went straight to the counter and asked about it. I think I bought the copy they were playing over the in-store stereo. This first song is called N... MORE

Blog post image preview I got turned on to Stereolab's Dots & Loops LP tonight...I'm certain I've heard some of these cuts before while chuggin' oat sodas at the Room but, for whatever reason, I never copped an album...WTF was I thinking?....this whole set is tight, check the video for the slice "Miss Modular" and get back to me...if you're already hip and I'm the last passenger to get on the short bus (shaddap K80) mebbe this anthology will set you straight...funnily enough, this LP was released... Blog post image preview that I purchased any music. The other day, I got a wild hair up my butt and hit a used cd store out in Topeka Kansas... I darn near struck gold in my bizarro little musical world that I inhabit. I picked up three winners and one stinker. My next three (including this one) will be covering said purchases, minus the stinker. First off was a Stereolab compilation entitled Oscillons From The Anti-Sun. It contained 3 discs of music and one disc loaded with Dvd's, and stickers... MORE

...my trusted already know that I'm born-again-hard about Stereolab and I've written about their Switched On Series on here before...I've found a sweet video from the first of their signature single compilations and thought I'd share it...released back in '99 this album smokes without question, son; it gives the lie to anyone who'd written Stereolab off as "JAEBy" (what I call just another electronica band)...this gaggle of grooves touches on avenues taken on Mars Audaic Q... I only did this review so I could type Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements multiple times Stereolab is one of the few bands in existence that crafted their own unique sound, combining influences as diverse as 60’s lounge pop, Krautrock, and French existentialism. Stereolab’s first major label release, Transient Random Noise Bursts with Announcements sounds exactly like a Stereolab album. This is not to say the album is easy or derivative. Transient seems ... Now on their 10th album, Stereolab have plowed their particular furrow for many years, constantly tweaking their particular mixture of dreamy french pop. Does their latest offering stand out from the crowd? ~~
