Back in March of this year, a group of musicians (including Beth Ditto, Richard Ashcroft, Sugababes, the Enemy and Pearl Lowe) teamed up to make a musical version of the "consequences game" in aid of the homeless charity Crisis. Each artists would pick up a composition from where the previous ended. Stereolab is what would be playing in elevators if elevators were awesome. I in no way mean that as an insult. I love Stereolab. They are a wonderful jumble of noise, irrepressible happiness, and french. They're just always background music, to me. Stereolab and Fantastic Plastic Machine (and, to a lesser degree, Pizzicato 5) occupy the space of background music for me, perfet for listening to as I do a few things around the house, read a book, or take a long drive somewhe... I got acquainted with Stereolab back in the mid 90's. I was really burnt out on metal (at the time). Everyone was doing grunge or trying to sound like Nirvana or acoustipop crap, or just really horrible death metal. And I was done with it for a bit. I got turned on to Stereolab's Dots & Loops LP tonight...I'm certain I've heard some of these cuts before while chuggin' oat sodas at the Room but, for whatever reason, I never copped an album...WTF was I thinking?....this whole set is tight, check the video for the slice "Miss Modular" and get back to me...if you're already hip and I'm the last passenger to get on the short bus (shaddap K80) mebbe this anthology will set you straight...funnily enough, this LP was released... ...my trusted already know that I'm born-again-hard about Stereolab and I've written about their Switched On Series on here before...I've found a sweet video from the first of their signature single compilations and thought I'd share it...released back in '99 this album smokes without question, son; it gives the lie to anyone who'd written Stereolab off as "JAEBy" (what I call just another electronica band)...this gaggle of grooves touches on avenues taken on Mars Audaic Q...
