It's like a dam broke in the hip hop video market - all of a sudden there is a furious flow of killer music vids out. So many appeared over the weekend that I couldn't possible post about each one separately. Since I noticed it via OnSmash, I'll just link to the best ones so you can choose the ones you want to check out... The rising sensation known as Santogold is back with a clip for "Lights Out". You can expect lots of colors, patterns, and a song that makes you want to run through a field of daisies. I would describe the sound as light and airy, but NME used the phrase "butterfly fragile", which sounds so much better. ... Yeah lets roll with that one.

Both Santogold and Coldplay are in the midst of their own indivudal tours, the two will cross paths in late July when Santo joins the boys for a handful of gigs. I guess she couldn't find it in her heart to say no to one of the biggest groups out right now. Yay for networking! Santogold + Coldplay:

Latest obsession: Santogold While she is most frequently compared to the musical style of M.I.A., her own music is all over the map, which makes her much more accessible to the general audiences. In Santogold's music I can hear inflections of Pixies, Breeders, YYY's, Tegan & Sarah, and even some Joy Division (the male voice (Trouble Andrew) in the background of "I'm A Lady") And there is nothing more admirable than an artist who refuses to limit herself to a single genre... The "Get It Up" collab was recorded last year (before M.I.A.announced her hiatus), but is appearing for the first time on Diplo's Top Ranking Santogold Mixtape. Gorilla Zoe's verse seems to be lifted from his "Hood Figga" single and the track was produced by Radioclit. <div align="center"> </div>

The was reacting against continual classification of her self-titled album as 'hip-hop', 'rap' or 'R&B', especially on online retail sites. "It's racist. It's totally racist. The phenom from Philly, Santogold has teamed up with The Strokes' Julian Casablancas for a song about Converse trainers. The track will also feature rapper Pharrell Williams. Speaking about the song Santogold said: "Everybody on it does their own separate thing and we didn't do it together so it ends up being just this weird long song with sort of everybody with lots of their own personalities separate."
