Blog post image preview According to Australia's Herald Sun, Brits have dubbed Queen frontman Freddy Mercury the greatest rock legend of all time in a new survey out today. Elvis Presley narrowly missed out on the rock n' roll crown coming in second, while Woodstock veteran Jimi Hendrix was hot on his heels in third place. Other contenders include Brit rockers Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton. The research commissioned to coincide with the launch of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, also re... MORE

Blog post image preview QUEEN Throughout the years, no other rock band has conquered the world and the charts like Queen. Starting in the early seventies and throughout the eighties, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon have written hit after hit. From their first number one single, Bohemian Rhapsody, to their stadium anthems, We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions, their music has reigned across the radio airwaves from Great Britain and Europe to the United States and Au... Queen Releases New Album in Fall

Queen + Paul Rodgers will release their new album, "The Cosmos Rocks", in Europe on September 15 and the U.S./Canada on October 14 via EMI. A single, "C-lebrity", will precede the album on September 8. "C-lebrity" was written and produced by Brian May, Paul Rodgers and Roger Taylor. Many of Queen's best-known songs have been written in humor, and "C-lebrity" follows in this pattern; it is a comment on the celebrity-driven times in which we live where the myriad of reali... MORE

Unless you have your head buried deeply under the sand, there's no way you missed that the New York Giants are the Super Bowl victors. On Super Tuesday / Mardi Gras and the eve of Chinese Lunar New Year (which actually begins today), there was a Victory Parade complete with ticker tape and all the fanfare in the Canyon of Heroes in Manhattan's downtown financial district... quite a LOT of whoop-di-doo for a single day...

Today, as she was describing the mood downtown when... MORE

How did you find your trusteds?

One thing I'm always amazed with here in MOGville is the sense of community. I know that's a common recurring theme in a lot of our posts, but that doesn't make it any less special. I'm surprised on a daily basis that I'm still just has gung ho about MOG as I was a year and a bit ago when I first started out. This is the longest I've ever stayed active in any sort of online community, and the great thing is I'm still just as excited about it as I always was. Of course... MORE

Top 10 'Rock Anthem' Bands

Artist:
Album:
Track:
I am not one to argue about stupid lists like this...but I thought this one was at least interesting enough to share. Spin listed their list of best 'Rock Anthem' bands ever...here it is...with some of my thoughts after:   1. U2 -- If the word anthemic disappeared, U2-ish would be a good replacement. Bono always sounds like he's singing mass, the Edge's guitar rings like the trumpets at Jericho, and Larry Mullen's rhythmic stiffness is a virtue. Adam Clayton? He, uh, alw... MORE

Artist Beryl Cook, known for her colourful and comic paintings of larger-than-life ladies, has died at the age of 81.
She died peacefully at her home in Plymouth on Wednesday with her husband and family at her side.

Cook had no formal training and did not take up painting until her 40s, but her work went on to become hugely popular.
Cook's paintings document familiar social situations like girls on a hen night, in a nightclub or shopping, men in the pub, at a strip club or... MORE

Not Guilty About This Pleasure

I found this as an mp3 on someone's drive a few years ago and it's been a fairly consistent joy ever since. Everything that's great musically about Queen. Everything that's great vocally about George Michael. I had no idea where it was from until I found this on YouTube - the Freddy Mercury Tribute at Wembley back in...1990? According to a comment on the page, George has said this is his best ever performance. I can believe it. Maybe that's why he plays so seldom. Or may... MORE

Another 'American Idol' Contestant Bites The Dust

Blog post image preview
Following the sad tradition of former Idols Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, and Kat McPhee, American Idol runner up Blake Lewis just got canned from his label. It's not that surprising Arista dumped him, but this firing comes particularly fast compared to the others. The beat boxing ex-Idol claimed he never wanted to be signed to a major label anyways, but isn't that what everyone says when they're publicly tossed to the side? Do you think this is a sign that American Id... MORE

Let me take ya wwaaaayyy back there to Queen's "Sheer Heart Attack" for this stellar tune (new purple shoes amber?) featuring vocals by drummer Roger Meadows Taylor. The pic is Freddie, 1976 Vets Memorial Auditoium, Columbus OH. The vid is lotsa painful fun, even though it cuts a great song too soon...

Blog post image preview _"All I wanna do is ... BICYCLE, BICYCLE, BICYCLE!"_ Excitement is brewing, peeps ... my favorite month of the year is upon us: July. Why, you may ask, is July my favorite month? Well friends, I am an absolute nut for bike racing. I know, I know ... most of you have football, baseball, the WWF smackdown ... had I grown up in a family of sports nuts this might be the case for me. But as it is, one of my brothers was a drummer, and the other was a bike racer, so I grew up wi... MORE
