keep art alive; art by joshua petker "in your life,
you can talk about it.
oh in your life,
you can live without,
can live without. and you know you're hard enough,
and you find you're strong enough,
oh yeah,
you'll find you're hard enough.
oh yeah,
you'll find you're strong enough." i used to be around these parts quite a lot, & i used to feel this place was a family to me. i opened myself up in ways that should not surprise me because music is the cord of con... MORE
"you were lying wide awake in the garden
trying to get over your stardom
and i could never see you depart
and you're my baby." not exactly a cover song, but interesting story behind the song...inspired by jeff buckley's cover of leonard cohen's song 'hallelujah'. i love the stories that swirl around music, songwriting, and storytelling. it all just fits back into my long-held belief that art begets art, and that music is the oxygen to nearly everything we create. i know... "well i made up my mind,
i gotta try, i gotta try, i gotta try,
yeah, one more time." pete yorn's cover of the david "junior" kimbrough song appears on his 'live from new jersey' album, along with the live collaborative axis of justice efforts. but, i think my favorite version of this is the live track from the apparent itunes exclusive 'live from soho'. it is full of that desperation and passion, and blues-ey meets rockabilly meets sun records feel to it that i just can... I think Pete nails this, at least he makes a song I thought I'd heard enough of quite listenable. Incredible pedal steel work in there as well.
I caught an awesome Ramones documentary on
cable yesterday.(End Of The Century)
So, I have been basking in the short bursts of rock n roll purity that are the Ramones songs all morning.
Here's a cover of Pete Yorn taking on what is maybe the greatest punk rock love song of all time...and a clip of the legends themselves.

At this point I'm convinced it's not just me; this election season really is bleeding into the music world in a way we haven't seen in decades. You just can't get through the day anymore without finding a story about a Jon Bon Jovi ripping on McCain/Palin for using his song, or a James Taylor doing five benefit concerts for Obama/Biden (not to mention Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel ) or, today, a new election-themed music video. This one's special, though. The artist ... MORE

Thick black smoke billowed from a fire at the Austin City Limits Festival today, interrupting Pete Yorn's performance and injuring four people, two of them critically. The fire lasted for 40 minutes before firefighters were able to contain it, and the source of the blaze is thought to be a propane tank that was attached to a trailer that was situated behind vendors and between two of the stages. The two critically injured people were probably transported to the Brooke Ar... MORE
I'm out the door, but I'd just like to say....poor Pete Yorn. A talented musician in his own right has to endure the Charles Barkley treatment with this summer's 'Crazy'-like one-hit wonder.
Pete Yorn was the first artist that MOG introduced me to and it was pretty much an instant seduction. I haven't yet had the excitement of seeing him live but this is a good substitute. Seattle, Feb 10, 2007. In a perfect MOG Amber would have been at that show and have a photo of Pete Yorn's shoes.
