PJ Harvey is about to release a new single with something old and something new. "The Devil" will be the third single off of last year's White Chalk and it will be released on March 10th. The B-side however has never before been released and isn't from White Chalk. It's "Liverpool Tide" from 1998! This is quite a boon for avid collector's of Harvey's music!

I was thinking about all the concerts I've seen and thinking about putting together a list (at least the ones I can remember) and posting it here. That got me to thinking of all the different types of music that I have liked over my lifetime. That brought me to start looking up some music that I may have enjoyed in passing but never made my mixtapes, top ten or desert island lists.
PJ Harvey was one such artist.
I looked her up and ran across this new vid f... MORE
I posted about this a couple of months ago...here's how it all came out.
New Ground: An Interview with PJ Harvey
[28 November 2007]
by Jennifer Kelly
PJ Harvey talks to PopMatters about her haunting new album, learning piano by ear, limitless imagination, and why she decided to do a string of solo shows to bring White Chalk to her fans.
Over the last decade and a half, PJ Harvey has amassed one of rock music’s most passionate and original catalogues, working in... MORE
I really enjoy her new record, I was bummed to see her only doing a few scatterewd US shows. So whats up?
I had no idea that I love the sound of the mellotron. Turns out It plays a part in a bunch of songs I have loved for years, like The Court of King Crimson, The Left Banke's music, and most recently tracks in PJ Harvey's new haunting (and I really mean haunting, people!) record. I seriously love what I've heard so far, it gives me the chills, in a good way.... MORE
Not what I expected but the song is lovely and that's all that matters. You all have a lovely Sunday now.
All those places
Where I recall the memories
That gripped me
And pinned me down
I go to these places
Intending to think
To think of nothing
No anticipate
And somehow expect
You'll find me there
That by some miracle
You'd be aware
I'd risen this morning
Determined to break
The spell of my longing
And not to think
I freed myself from my family
I freed myself from work
I freed myself
I freed myself
And remained alone
And in my thinking
Steal you away

"I realize the reason I like playing records (as opposed to CDs) is that they're short: they stop after 20 minutes. I want less music."
Brian Eno wrote that in his published diary "A Year With Swollen Appendices" in 1995. A quote I have never forgotten. I guess, another writing of the good ol' "quality over quantity" deal.
PJ Harvey's brand new album "White Chalk" is a fine example of this. First time I put on the LP it was on the wrong speed. It's on 45 RPM's. Don't... MORE
When I declaim about the state of rock music I need to remind myself that there are many diamonds in the rough and of course one of the brightest (and darkest) is Polly Jean Harvey. I haven't had chance to hear the whole album 'White Chalk' yet but the UK's Observer is one of many places it is getting rave reviews: "It's bleak, lacks guitars and is sung in an odd voice. So what makes this piano-driven set an unlikely triumph, asks Paul Mardles". Never one to follow others PJ ... MORE
