This morning I was listening to the Eddie & Jobo radio show. They're two DJs that have been on the air in Chicagoland since I was born. Talking about the new number one album in America, one of the guys, I'm not sure which, made a joke in reference to my peeps (see my last name) and Nas, whose self-titled sold 187,000 copies to land on top of teh char thtis week. Over the course of the last week, tracks from Nas' upcoming untitled album were slowly distributed one by one to the internet. By the time our clocks struck midnight yesterday, the entire album had found it's way onto your favorite file sharing hideout. The scary thing about this situation is that the album isn't scheduled for release until July 15th, and EVERYONE wants to hear this. While the story of last night's Grammy ceremony centers around Kanye West and Amy Winehouse racking up awards, the pre-show buzz belongs to Nas. It's always great to see two who were once bitter enemies sharing the stage and having the building go crazy. Nas brought out special guest Jay-Z this weekend at Rock The Bells in NYC to do a song or two. Nas sat down with Complex magazine to discuss the new album, and his future regarding the music business. One interesting tidbit I learned from this piece is that at one point Nas signed on with VH1 to produce a reality show iwth his wife Kelis. Production on the show was scrapped after only 2 episodes because Nas says "we were too boring for TV". A whole lot of Nas news just dropped onto the wire in the last few hours. Apparently, the controversial rapper has shocked friends and fans alike by inking a good old fashioned brand partnership with the athletic clothing company Fila. Nas usually steers clear of such endorsement deals, but Fila is product that's close to his heart. Nas, along with reps from MoveOn.org and ColorOfChange.org will deliver a petition of over 600,000 signatures to Fox News tomorrow in Manhattan. The petition claims that Fox News is practicing racism against Black Americans, notably presidential hopeful Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. Included in the incidents that sparked this petition was Fox labeling Obama's hand gesture with his wife to be a "terrorist fist jab" and Bill O'Reilly calling a "lynching party" to deal... MORE

Early Billboard projections are placing Nas atop next week's Billboard charts with his Untitled album. The disc is expected to sell anywhere between 200-250,000 copies, which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. Those are great numbers for an album that had a serious lack of "pop friendly" songs to distribute to mass media, but they could be considered bad for an album that had so much hype.

My optimism is growing with each new track I hear from this album, all signs are pointing towards a great LP.
