Mos Def will star in the film adaptation of the 1969 novel "Mama Black Widow". The film tells the story of a black family who travels from Mississippi to Chicago in the 1930s. I have a friend, SM. SM thinks Mos Def is overrated and has doesn't make it lyrically. I can't change his opinion, but I can give reasons why I think he's wrong.Dollar Day is the perfect example of a song where Mos Def takes an issue and mixes beautiful, clever lyrics and combines them with razor sharp take on the situation and his unique way of making music. I must be slippin. How did I miss a Mos Def mix CD? Why didn't y'all shake me? Better late, I guess. The CD is called Mos Definite and features 15 tracks by Black Dante. Of course, I don't know if Flaco really had anything to do with this release since certain tracks (i.e. "Outro" is actually May-December from Black on Both Sides) are mis-named. Mos Def is bouncing between rapping and acting as usual. The actor has a co-starring role in the upcoming Michael Gondry film starring Jack Black titled "Be Kind Rewind." I know it's late (extremely late), but I was watchin a segment of Real Time with Bill Maher (Sept. 7, 2007 w/ guests: Mos Def & Prof. Cornel West), and I thought it was hilarious, insightful and informative. The incredible artists/activists Dr. Cornell West and Mos Def laid some knowledge on the table on Bill Maher's show a few days ago. I adore the combined energies of West and Def.
