Jolie Holland is a dark angel of song and this is a track from her upcoming album, The Living & The Dead. While the arrangement here is more rock than her previous recordings in the way that Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited was more rock than Another Side of Bob Dylan, her lovely voice is as unique as ever, flirting with jazz, folk and rock a way that only Jolie Holland can pull off. I love this song and can't wait for the album.

Recently, Anti released the album cover for Jolie Holland's upcoming "The Living and the Dead", and it looks excellent as always. She has always put herself on her album covers, mostly in photographs but once in a drawing. The point is I can't imagine seeing some other design without her in it because she has established this trend so well, it's pretty much set in stone.

I don't want to cloud this post up with to many words but I was listening to Minneapolis' listener supported radio station 89.3 the Current this last weekend. (which I rarely do) This tingles my spine for some reason. This train done rolled over me. Enjoy!

Jolie Holland is one of my favorite artists. She has the most beautiful voice -- she's been compared to Billie Holiday and kiaren Dalton, but it's a unique voice, truly like no other. She writes moving songs about love and life. I love her three albums, and you see an artist contuing to grow and evolve if you listen to them in order. Thanks to Mog, Jim and I had a killer time last night seeing Jolie Holland at the very-crowded-but-sweet-crowd at the legendary Fillmore, my most favorite venue in town. We were close up, about 8 layers back. Only good things happen here. Jolie's sound was full, her voice luscious and strong, her musical talents oozing from the piano, the violin, the guitar. So I keep seeing the Jolie Holland contest advertised on here and I keep saying that I'm going to give some of her songs a listen. I finally did today and, I must admit, I'm quite impressed.
