Johnny Rivers has never been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he barely rates a mention in most authoritative rock music guides (even the ones that chart the rise of LA-pop-rock). He didn't write many of his own songs, and he genre-hopped like a latter-day Bobby Darin or Ricky Nelson, and most of the hits he had were remakes of rock & roll and Motown classics.
