Christie's are auctioning off John Lennon's hand-written lyrics for "Give Peace A Chance." Reportedly they were given to a 16-year old Gail Renard by the singer himself during a protest for peace in Montreal in 1969. John and Yoko were holding the "bed-in" at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel when he gave Renard a few mementos, including the lyrics. The Lennon heirs and Yoko Ono have a lot of copyright problems on their hands right now. Reports are popping up on numerous news sites of a controversial "drug tape" starring John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1970 and a documentary critiquing "Imagine" without permission.

Yesterday, (and probably today too), myspace* was featuring a Jared Leto interview. Being a female & a My So-Called Life fan, Jared Leto is like catnip to me, (regardless of his way-gay band), so I had to check it out.

A little rough in the recording but it is always good to listen to a genius at work.
As often speculated, Lennon wrote this to explain what he was up to in the last 6 years. Until Double Fantasy, his last album was Walls And Bridges, which was released in 1974. He was no longer interested in fame, and dedicated himself to his family - his wife Yoko and young son Sean. Aside from the obvious reasons I might want to upload this song, I really think this is a fun song and imagine Lennon having a really good time writing it, a kind of orgiastic language lovefest. It reminds me a lot of playing the dozens as a kid back in the day.
