Impossible fusion is kind of Joe Henry's deal. Impossible collaborations too. It wasn't always that way. When I saw Joe Henry open for Uncle Tupelo years ago, I liked him enough to buy Kindness of the World, an album that - given everything he's done since - seems a little pedestrian to me now.
