Great topic of debate here at Matadornights: Ten Songs By Musicians Who Died Too Soon. Their list includes: Elliot Smith "Needle In The Hay" Metallica "(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth" (featuring the late Cliff Burton) Jeff Buckley "Halleluja (live at Sin-e)" Nirvana...

So some dreadlocked guy sings Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" the other night on American Idol, and Randy and Simon rattle on about how they love Jeff Buckley's version, and just like that, the Buckley track jumps out of nowhere to #4 on the iTunes chart, which is the first time Jeff's music has been in any top 10 in the U.S. (I'm pretty sure). We live in an odd world. You've heard and seen Jeff sing this song a bajillion times, but it never ceases to be riveting. He used t... MORE
Bob Dylan's words with Jeff Buckley's ridiculously beautiful voice is a potent combination that is capable of stopping you in your tracks...I know, its happened to me multiple times.
Long intro on this, but once the song starts it will break your heart...in a good way...in the best way possible actually...so stay tuned.
Jeff Buckley Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk Columbia 1998 On the cusp of Y2K came the final release of original material by the late great Jeff Buckley. Buckley's death is one of remorse for all that cou... MORE
For the second installment of Vintage B-sides/Outtake Classics is the one of the holy grail for Jeff Buckley fans. Finally released on the Legacy Edition of Grace, Forget Her is the song that was destined to be on the original release of Grace but dropped by Buckley. Why you ask? You see before Buckley had the fear that Sony would try to market him as a balladeer. Especially after The NY Times reviewed Live at Sin-e with a Michael Bolton album, he didn't want to be lu... MORE
This is my favorite version of Hallelujah recorded live at The Metro in Chicago. I love the coda that Buckley adds at the end.
"It's just Hallelujah, baby
until you are nothing
Hallelujah, baby
until she is everywhere
Hallelujah, baby
still together you are somewhere
at last..."
That says it all, his eternal voice, the echoing guitar riff and the way the crowd reacts to it all. Close yr eyes and spin it again and again.
It's just Hallelujah, baby!
This morning I woke up and looked at my Apple homepage and saw that Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah" was #2 on iTunes. I love this song, but Buckley covered it back in '94, so I wondered what had caused this iTunes phenomenon. I did some research (a.k.a. Googling) and found out that American Idol contestant, Jason Castro, sang it a couple of nights ago. The judges say they like his rendition. Even Simon, who said it's one of favorite songs, said it was "BRILLIANT!" Hm... MORE
Despite this image, this is not a political post. Well, it is sort of. In a music snob sort of way...
So I saw this Google Headline "HUD Secretary Expected to Resign." But As you can see the picture next to it is a thumb of the Jeff Buckley album "Grace". Being ever inquisitive about such strange pairings I clicked on the picture which led me to this article from The Dallas Morning Star:This might have been more appropriate a week ago, on Easter Sunday -- you know, All...
