Ghostland Observatory Biography

Source: Wikipedia

Ghostland Observatory are an Austin, Texas based music duo. Their music is difficult to classify, but has fittingly been described as "electro-dance soul rock." Front man Aaron Behrens provides unique, energetic vocals and stage performances in addition to occasionally playing the guitar, while Thomas Ross Turner plays the drums/synths. The band released their first full-length album, delete.delete.i.eat.meat, in 2005 on Turner's Trashy Moped Recordings. Within a year the band also released t...Read More >

If that dude from the Darkness was the lead singer of the Faint and the Faint met the Rapture at a Rave in 1981 with Daft Punk spinning, the resulting love child would be Ghostland Observatory. Packing bigger drama and more bombast then many of their electro-funk-punk-disco peers, the Austin, TX duo blew me away with their sound and their show at Webster Hall in March. I had never heard the group before but I trusted a couple music heads from Texas and they opened up my min... MORE

Their music is difficult to classify, but has fittingly been described as "electro-dance soul rock." According to the band's Myspace.com page, they describe their sound as "A robot making love to a tree!!" Check out this fun listen while you enjoy a nice red delicious.

Blog post image preview If this is the first time you’re hearing Ghostland Observatory’s music, believe me, it’s not gonna be the last. Ghostland Observatory is one of those rare bands who breaks onto the scene with such an intensity and such a ferocity, that you’re drawn to the music. Ghostland Observatory is the brainchild of Aaron Behrens… The James Brown dancin’, high-energy singin’, guitar playin’ maniac… And Thomas Turner, “The Wizard of the Synths,” and the drum master that will keep your fee... I have no clue on where to start! I have so much music that I listen to and have mixed feelings about. Most that I love! Some I hate to love.
There is something about the last two years that has me listening to more electronic music though. I'm not sure what triggered it. Or why i'm so into it because a lot of it can get real cheesy and annoying. Maybe it has a lot to do with being a teenager in the 90's and being surrounded by the rave scene and listening to Deep Hous... MORE

Blog post image preview After a grueling eight hour drive across the state of Texas, I finally arrive in Austin. The occasion is ACL 2007 , and it was worth every minute of the long drive. I bought tickets to an ACL aftershow on Sunday night featuring Cold War Kids, and a band called Ghostland Observatory. Unfortunately I missed Cold War Kids, but I decided to stay and see this band I had only heard a few times. To my surprise it was one of the best live performances I've ever seen, especially en... Blog post image preview Seriously. Is there a quota? Because I have a new one: Ghostland Observatory. I caught this power duo from Austin at Lollapalooza on the recommendation of Librarianguish as did zeroskilz, who flew this weekend to Seattle to catch GLO at a sold out show. Librarianguish joined us as well as my good buddy Jaye.
First off: the show was amazing. The physical performance of the lead singer Aaron Behrens is entralling. The man just reeks of sexuality and ... MORE

So my mp3 player crashed and I lost 75% of my music. I am trying to get back what I can. But on a side note, music has been totally frustrating lately. I'm not finding anything that just blows me away. I'm beginning to listen to...(gulp) talk radio!!! AHHHHH ! I have begun listening to some of my older tracks that I had a chance to back on CD. Ghostland Observatory has become a staple in my CD player. There lead singer is awesome in a way totally his own. Paparazzi... MORE

Looked for clips but none do it justice. These guys brought it. Rockin' guitar riffs, and 2 guys in the whole band.
Amazing light show. Reminded me of Spiritualized. Look out for them.

I haven't posted in what seems to be eons, but I had a slightly thrilling experience that past weekend which I feel warrants a post. We checked out the bad asses in capes and skin tight jeans known as Ghostland Observatory at the new House of Blues in Dallas this past Saturday. The evening wore on, they finally took the stage by 11pm after the longest DJ set in history complements of DJ Dr Jack. We sat in the balcony and after consuming copious amounts of vodka soda, I... There are two groups I've been wanting to see for quite some time. Ghostland Observatory is one of them. I didn't get to see them in Austin for South By, but apparently, even Playboy is hip to them, as can be seen above. While there, I did hear a passing comment that the male pigtails will never catch on, which was false from my short experience at Barton Springs (and hell, people from the PR reggaeton scene have been known to rock them, too). Welcome to the n... MORE
