Ghostland Observatory are an Austin, Texas based music duo. Their music is difficult to classify, but has fittingly been described as "electro-dance soul rock." Front man Aaron Behrens provides unique, energetic vocals and stage performances in addition to occasionally playing the guitar, while Thomas Ross Turner plays the drums/synths. If that dude from the Darkness was the lead singer of the Faint and the Faint met the Rapture at a Rave in 1981 with Daft Punk spinning, the resulting love child would be Ghostland Observatory. I have no clue on where to start! I have so much music that I listen to and have mixed feelings about. Most that I love! Some I hate to love.
There is something about the last two years that has me listening to more electronic music though. I'm not sure what triggered it. Or why i'm so into it because a lot of it can get real cheesy and annoying. After a grueling eight hour drive across the state of Texas, I finally arrive in Austin. The occasion is ACL 2007 , and it was worth every minute of the long drive. I caught this power duo from Austin at Lollapalooza on the recommendation of Librarianguish as did zeroskilz, who flew this weekend to Seattle to catch GLO at a sold out show. So my mp3 player crashed and I lost 75% of my music. I am trying to get back what I can. But on a side note, music has been totally frustrating lately. I'm not finding anything that just blows me away. I'm beginning to listen to...(gulp) talk radio!!! AHHHHH ! I have begun listening to some of my older tracks that I had a chance to back on CD. I haven't posted in what seems to be eons, but I had a slightly thrilling experience that past weekend which I feel warrants a post. We checked out the bad asses in capes and skin tight jeans known as Ghostland Observatory at the new House of Blues in Dallas this past Saturday. There are two groups I've been wanting to see for quite some time. Ghostland Observatory is one of them. I didn't get to see them in Austin for South By, but apparently, even Playboy is hip to them, as can be seen above. While there, I did hear a passing comment that the male pigtails will never catch on, which was false from my short experience at Barton Springs (and hell, people from the PR reggaeton scene have been known to rock them, too).
