I discuss the Seattle five-piece's self-titled debut album with MOG outsider, The Girlfriend (a.k.a Jill).
During Ragged Wood...
The GF: I thought this was supposed to be folk music?
Me: It is.
The GF: No, it isn’t. It’s a much bigger sound.
Me: What were you expecting, a one-man band?
The GF: It’s not exactly humble, using all the instrumentation.
Me: Would it help if they doffed their caps every now and then during songs? They could tap them against the mike, and say "Very so... MORE
I've gotta give my pick to: Fleet Foxes "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" from their S/T 2008 release. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Post your 5 star song as a new post and reply here with a link to your posts... or just post it here...whatever floats your boats. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, I'm interested in what everyone thinks this song is all about. I want a real dissection. Listen to it, watch it, read it and let me know. I'll let you all know what I think too. Mykonos is off Fleet Foxes EP, Sun Giant which was released in early Feb. of this year. It's shaping up to become one of my most played songs of the year to date. Fleet Foxes - Mykonos The door slammed loud and rose up a cloud of dust on us

http://www.thelineofbestfit.com/2008/06/12/beach-house-fleet-foxes-ulu-london-110608/ It's nice to suddenly find yourself at a gig that's gone from being a slightly obscure "up-and-coming" type show to a full blown queue-round-the-block hot ticket in the space of a few weeks. Tonight's sold out ULU Bella Union showcase is exactly that, with Fleet Foxes garnering 5/5 reviews in every broadsheet and monthly magazine going. Fame, it seems, is looki... MORE
Hear the entire concert on the NPR website! Absolutely stunning and humbling: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=92089028 I wasn't home for the show, but I was thrilled to live vicariously through my friends who said the Black Cat has never been that silent and reverent before. And we see lots and lots of shows there. The band were a bit overwhelmed by how many people showed up to see them, as if they had no idea just how popular they've become! Cheers... MORE
"He Doesn't Know," as you'll see from one of the photos below, was the 8th song of the night.
The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Stanley Kubrick, Ethan Hawke, Jane Fonda, Mark Twain, Dylan Thomas, Jack Kerouac, Arthur Miller, Thomas Wolfe and that's just the beginning. New York City is unique in that it can shine as the superhero of uniqueness as much as it can fall victim to being just another stereotye. And the city by no m... MORE
Sometimes I dig in my heels, usually for no good reason. Last December my good friend Jaye went to a show I wanted to go to, except my sister was visiting. David Bazan was playing at The Crocodile Café in Seattle and another local band, Fleet Foxes, was opening for him. I skipped it to fight with my sister and it so happens that was the last night the Croc was open. The next day my favorite dive music venue was shut down. So I was jealous of Jaye and her g... MORE
Fleet Foxes: the second coming of My Morning Jacket? Has Jim James bifurcated somehow? Or taken a new identity & appearance after the Prince stylings of "Evil Urges"?
So many questions.
Entering the UK album chart at number 11 this week, new comers Fleet Foxes are giving a "whatsup wave" to the industry biggies just ahead of them such as Coldplay, Duffy, Neil Diamond, Paul Weller and The Fratelis. This is all the more impressive when you notice that L.A. rockers Weezer charted at only number 21 this week with their new album. Either Fleet Foxes are being majorly hyped (not really - just the same old Duffy and Lil Wayne posters everywhere in Londo... MORE
And for any Vancouverites out there...Fleet Foxes will be coming to VanCity on the 16th of September playing at Richards on Richards. My calendar is abundant with happy music news, and seeing Fleet Foxes perform is one glowing highlight!
Belle and Sebastian may have been spot-on... But this post isn't about Belle and Sebastian. Nor is it about books, particularly. It's about how I've been, well, wrapped up in books. And about how I miss the innocence that going to school used to have for me. So I suppose I should've entitled this post "Textbook Love" instead, since that's my main point any way, and since the Fleet Foxes sing the sentiment wonderfully. Hmmm... Forgive me, I digress. The school year beg... MORE
Former Chalky's Choice, Fleet Foxes have released a new video to accompany their song White Winter Hymnal.
Here it is: White Winter Hymnal - Ignore the message about the video no longer being available, if you press play it'll work anyhow!
This video is like parts of the album, quite dark but covered in the sweetest of rhythms and melodies. Apparently tickets for their midnight show at Union Hall, NY sold out in under 4 minutes!

Who Are Fleet Foxes? I’ll let them give their own introduction:
"We're a group of five from Seattle that sing for the fun of it and are into all kinds of music. We'd call this stuff baroque harmonic pop jams. Our names are Skye, Robin, Joshua, Casey, and Christian. We'll make some mistakes along the way but we hope you enjoy our little family business." Family business it might be, but small? Not any more. Fleet Foxes are taking the music world by storm and may find... MORE

I find this music very charming. It is suspiciously redolent of Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac moodiness, perhaps inspiring the band name. If you listen to the track 'Dust' from Mac's Bare Trees album, you will hear what I mean. Dust was a filler track for the album, but is deliciously angular in an art-song kind of way. Fleet Foxes should cover this tune...
