Stan, my boy, turned 12 yesterday. And to celebrate, Uncle Sef arranged an exciting gift...the gift of flight. I honestly had no intention of participating. It was to be Sef, Stew (hubby) and Stan. But Stew dislocated his shoulder about 6 years ago, and all the warning signs suggested that it was not recommended. We are talking 130 mph winds on the shoulder joints...it just wasn't worth it. So I stepped up to the plate. I was so apprehensive. I don't like th... MORE
Death Cab For Cutie are going to have themselves a fun turning-of-the-leaves season. Not only are they hitting up Europe and major venues like New York’s Radio City Music Hall, but they’ll be kickin’ it with Neil Young for some Canadian stops (Wilco will link up with Young, following DCFC.) In addition to the tour the band have announced an exclusive five-song Rhapsody.com release. The session was recorded live at KFOG this past June, and includes the tracks (in the or... MORE
Death Cab came home sweet home for our yearly festival (Bumbershoot) and played live...(Props to their opening act Super Chunk, also a good band) i've been a death cab fan for about 5 years now (the ultimate death cab fan at that) and i've never seen them live. They did an hour and a half long set but we asked for an encore and we got it! They are amazing live & it was even better to see them in their hometown, Seattle. I cried when they came out & Ben Gibbard is an incr... MORE
Death Cab For Cutie revealed plans for a short U.S. tour this fall, following their string of gigs overseas. The band is still supporting their late spring/early summer album "Narrow Stairs", and will touch down in nine American cities. West coast fans might feel a little left out, because the only date on this side of the map is in Seattle on September 1st. 08-12 Singapore, Singapore - Esplanade Concert Hall
08-15 Seoul, South Korea - ETP Festival
08-17 Melbourne, Au... MORE
I am taken by this song. The sad, mournful lyric and the martial drums create a sense of time's inevitability. At one time I owned all of Death Cab For Cutie's music. I won a 30G ipod here on the MOG a year & 1/2 ago and it came loaded with Death Cab/ The Postal Service and a nice assortment of cds thru the years. About 275 song & a few videos. By the time I figured the whole thing out, (I was just getting used to computers and knew nothing of ipods), I had ... MORE
Here's the brand new Death Cab For Cutie single, "I Will Possess Your Heart," off Narrow Stairs, which will see release May 13. If you dig it you can buy it at your fave online digital music store.
While I said I am a cat person (see previous post), truth be told, there is a dog in my life. Her name is Lola, a black and white rat terrier/chihuahua mix. She is my brother's dog, and she comes over to the house quite frequently. And if Kyle, my bro, is not there, I am easily the boss of Lola...she sits with me while I am on the computer, follows directions (as much as a Lola can), and follows me around the house. Last night she was hit by a car around midnight. K... MORE
While I trouble-shoot my way through an auto-tuned rebuttal of sorts to Troy's Instant Classic, I wanted to post this outstanding version of "Brothers on a Hotel Bed" from DCFC's recently released EP that Charley posted on earlier today. The whole EP is pretty good actually, but this song has been one of my favorites of theirs since it came out off Plans. It's been a bit of a rough day, and a depressing-ass song isn't exactly what I was looking for as a pick-me-up, but th... MORE
So MTV have posted a review of the upcoming Death Cab album, Narrow Stairs. And it is very, very intriguing. I'm seriously bursting with curiosity, thanks to tidbits like: "they had seemingly gone into the studio (or, more specifically, three studios) with the intention of, a) systematically destroying the fanbase they had built up over the course of a decade, or b) infuriating their major-label handlers at Atlantic." "Fans were either going to love it or curse its ver... MORE
I totally forgot about this amazing cover from Death Cab until it came up on my ipod this morning, gotta love ben gibbard and the gang. i reckon it might rival the original, but will i get abused for saying that? muhaha. I love DCFC.
The Voodoo festival has revealed its full lineup for the October 26-28 get together in New Orleans. Big name performers include Death Cab For Cutie, REM, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, and New Orleans' own Lil Wayne. The Voodoo festival is split into three major sections. "Le Flambeau" will feature music and sounds consistent with the hometown style of The Big Easy. "Le Ritual" will feature mainstream music we're all familiar with, and finally "Le Carnival" featu... ...that the new Death Cab album is just a total pop nugget from start to finish, albeit a nugget with more than a little bitterness right there at the end. This though, is like an outtake from Pet Sounds. Good shit. Surprising. It makes me smile everytime I hear it. Come to think of it, Brian Wilson is all over this record, in all his shimmering sixties faded pop glory.
Yesterday I posted about Where I Mog and I used the song "You Woke Up My Neighbourhood" ...today I am following it with a cover of Billy Bragg's version by Death Cab For Cutie.
