It's Decemeber. As most of you know, hordes of publications are releasing their year-end lists. This is not a post asking you to submit your favorite 10. I'll let the number-crunchers that be handle that end of the business. I have mine own to do. However, it's getting around the time where we give gifts. Who gives your gifts or why you get them, doesn't matter. I want to ask you a question, though. What were your favorite musical gift this year and what do you want from ... MORE
I was fucking around with words the other day and it came out like this. it's not finished but wanted to through it at opinions and put music to it. read as your listening. Footsteps reach the protection of the shadows. creeping along a darkened wall, arriving at the door, stands a man all in black, picking the lock; entering. Inside an empty tavern of wood and checkered floors, footsteps reaching the bar, the register, the alcohol. A good score, stuffed in a milit... MORE

/// At their show in Rome a couple of days ago Built To Spill covered M.I.A. 's song "Paper Planes." The rendition is really quite good, in fact I prefer it to M.I.A.'s version (but I'm not a huge fan of her work so I'm biased). In the end though it really just made me want to listen to "Straight to Hell ." /// Chicago natives Fall Out Boy are attempting to set a world record for the greatest number of radio interviews done by a pair of two in the span of 24 h... hey im dodging an essay right now. yeah so this is Carry The Zero by Built to Spill. i guess ive been drifting more towards lucid sounds, but this song is just great. he isnt an amazing singer, but it's okay. the content of the words is worth more than how they're sung, as cliche as that sounds.
thinkin about it, they arent that deep. im not maybe not sure why i like it, but it's pretty great. check it out, and drop me a comment since ur already here.
Did you ever have one of those songs hit you, and just kind of connect everything you had been feeling about a certain situation but never could put your finger on it? The contempt I now feel for Classic Rock radio's generic play lists and rotation killing ways have made me listen to CD's or talk radio while in the car. The fact that so many artists can be so narrowly represented by the medium is infuriating. The fact that once beautiful songs are now over played fossil... MORE
With the invention of the ipod, did you overlook any cds in your first run at loading it up, and then think to yourself years later, "whatever happened to that song/cd I use to love?"
I did...and recently unpacking a box with my cds, I found this gem, and thought, "what the heck was I thinking when I was loading up cds onto my ipod? How could I not load this one up?"
I'm glad I went looking.

If there is any place to start for me, it Built to Spill, a band (really a man, our hero, Doug) that speaks to me on the most simple yet direct level of communication. There are dozens of songs, live and studio, that provide a full dose of BTS. Check out the nearly 9-minute jam Goin' Against Your Mind as little taste of what you get. Close your eyes and listen to that guitar work. Beware - Doug's voice is most def in the Neil Young school of tone. Then try Stop the Show, C... MORE
