The Boss Takes On The Super Bowl XLIII Halftime Show

Blog post image preview
To keep in line with the recent string of PG-rated, classic rock Super Halftime performances covering up the mess that was the 2004 Halftime show, the NFL and NBC have signed on Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band for 2009. The Boss follows in the footsteps of Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and Prince, but even the latter faced some scrutiny.

This year’s Super Bowl is scheduled for February 1st at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida and is expected ... MORE

Bruce Springsteen: Your 2009 Super Bowl halftime entertainer
Sep  2008 Gary Susman

As a bigger music fan than football fan, I wish I could say that Bruce Springsteen is bigger than the Super Bowl, that he should have better things to do than play a hasty 12-minute medley of his hits, as a sideshow to a sporting event, for an audience that didn't show up just to see him. But the truth is, he's not, and after the likes of the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Pr... MORE

Bruce Springsteen has written the closing track for new Darren Aronofsky-directed film 'The Wrestler'. The movie stars Mickey Rourke as Randy 'The Ram' Robinson: a veteran wrestler struggling to make a living in the ring. Writing on the Darren Aronofsky blog, the director said: "Bruce Springsteen wrote a beautiful original song for the closing the film. "Called 'The Wrestler', it is a wonderful acoustic piece. Makes me choke up every time I hear it. He really captured t... MORE

How is it that the tough frontier governor from Alaska is too timid to answer questions from media at press conferences? How could anyone vote for a ticket of which half refuses to explain themselves? It might be different if she had a track record that could be extrapolated to a vice-presidency, but she doesn't. Her experience in Alaska - as a mayor of a small town and as a governor of a state of roughly 700,000 citizens - isn't easily traceable to being a heartbeat aw... MORE

If the NFL didn't convince you that they wanted to stray away from young pop acts who landed them in hot water with "nipplegate" by choosing Prince in 2007, and Tom Petty in 2008... maybe 2009 will be the year you finally get it. Bruce Springsteen a.k.a. The Boss will play the halftime show at Super Bowl XLIII in February, according to the New York Post. "THE next Super Bowl is really going to rock. This year, Tom Petty rocked the halftime crowd at the University of P... MORE

So I ultimately managed to get hold of a ticket to the free Springsteen show/Obama rally that took place this past weekend. This story isn't just about the concert, it's about events prior to and after, so here's the story of how I spent my Saturday.

For a number of reasons, I didn't get a huge amount of sleep Friday night/Saturday morning. I woke up around 11:30 groggy and still unsure of who's coming to the show with me and if I'm even gonna go (I'm pretty sure I'm gonn... MORE
