WOW! Saw these guys last night and this was the best show I have seen come thru town in a while (I should qualify that I missed AIH late last year... damn weddings). The venue had technical difficulties and one of the band members (Kevin Drew) had a leg injury, but neither one slowed the show down at all.
The Cool Kids One thing Outside Lands seemed short of was some of the more rap and hip hop artists and electronic DJs selections. Unlike Coachella with its expansive electronic dance tent and Lollapalooza with an assortment of hip hop artists and dance stages, this festival was for the most part a lot of white folk and rock artists (even some forgotten ones- like Cake anyone?)- save a token rapper or two (Lupe Fiasco) and a splattering of world music (thank you Manu... People have been asking me what I want for my birthday since I am turning the big 1-8 in a week (which is a total sham if you ask me, but that's another discussion). I've told most to get me whatever, if they must. But then I thought about it and came up with this list of things I really would like to have. Feel free to grant any (if you can) :) To get into Vanderbilt (hello Nashville!) and get enough scholarship money to actually go there. To look like Jenny Lewis when ... MORE

Things are getting quick messy in the blog world. Well, at least for blogger users. Over the past month and a half, many blogs have had their posts removed because of the music industry/RIAA/DMCA. Those are not friendly words eh?? Basically the music industry is deleting bloggers posts without talking to the bloggers because of songs that they feel they shouldn't have posted. This boggles my mind. We are using our love for music to try to promote good bands that matter ... MORE

This is Broken Social Scene, kicking ass and taking names while headlining at Guelph's hillside fest in '03 Even though Hillside had been around for 20 or so years at this point, this was the year that turned it from a well known festival, to a world renowned festival. There is no doubt that Broken Social Scene played a big role in that turning point. That night they played their hearts out, playing a mix of songs off of 'You Forgot It In People' as well as songs that ... MORE

It would have to be a pretty special band to get me out to the dreaded Sound Academy for the always dreaded all ages show. But when the band in question is Broken Social Scene (whom I haven't seen for about two years now,) well, one has to set aside his own personal beefs and put forth the effort to be there. And what can I say?...the band once again proved themselves to be nothing short of epic, as they put on a show that once again solidifies the fact that when it comes... MORE
