Like some of the MMN feeds (is that the proper acronym?), I'm going to attempt to post a monthly mis tape - a sample of songs I'm listening to on a monthly basis. Unlike some of the feeds, I don't really have an agenda of sorts. I chose to share the mix tape via a site known as Mix Wit. It's a fairly easy-to-use site, but some songs aren't available to import to a mix but regardless, it's easy to figure out. Here is October's Mix. Feel free to check it out if you're... MORE
we ended things last week. said he didn't like my family and didn't want to deal with it. and that he didnt want to have to act like a father figure to me, because i don't really have one. oh well. we're still cool. me, him, beth, and some others hung out this weekend. hopefully things will change. :)
When I first heard Brand New, I was sitting shotgun in my girlfriend's Toyota Cressida. I was a freshman in college, back home for Thanksgiving. She was a year younger, still stuck in high school, and the distance was hard on us. She said I was sure to love this song, and keyed up "Soco Amaretto Lime," the acoustic finale to BN's debut Your Favorite Weapon. As it ends, singer Jessie Lacey repeatedly shouts "you're just jealous cause we're young and in love." In that moment... MORE
I know this isnt a new song or artist... but some songs never fade in defining a moment in time... this is my moment in time then and now..
You are calm and reposed. Let your beauty unfold.
Pale white, like the skin stretched over your bones.
Spring keeps you ever close.
You are second hand smoke. You are so fragile and thin.
Standing trial for your sins.
Holding onto yourself the best you can.
You are the smell before rain.
You are the blood in my veins.

Much like Sesame Street, today's post is brought to you by two things. Not the Brand New song I've tagged on, though - that's just gratuitous. One, I'm reading Rob Sheffield's Love Is A Mix Tape, and it's awesome. I'm only three chapters in and I love it. Almost makes me want to trade my iPod for a Lloyd Dobler-esque boom box. I can't recommend it highly enough. Two, I turned 29 on Monday. I'm a sucker for premature nostalgia anyway, but birthdays really bring that out... MORE
I absolutely love Brand New and am looking forward to seeing them a second time this fall. Hooray for the songwriting genius of Jesse Lacey, 2.5 hour chronological setlists, awesome lighting (yes, lighting), and great opening bands!
Brand New has a bunch of demos floating around on the internet as a set called Fight Off Your Demons (pre-Devil and God and post-Deja Entendu I believe?). To commemorate last year's show (My friend Laura and I both agreed it was the best sho... MORE

Below is a fantastic video of the fantastic band Brand New playing their fantastic instrumental Welcome to Bangkok (yes, it's a Bjork reference) off their fantastic album The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me.
On a rather nice, sunny day in Burlington, Vermont, I stood outside of Higher Grounds ballroom along with what seemed like EVERY student from the local high school (and here I am, going on 19 this saturday...). Now, to begin with, I'll be honest. I had, at that time, heard Brand New's new album once through from a friend. I ended up at the show when 4 friends of mine had bought tickets, and one of them backed out, my point being that I went with almost no expectations. ... MORE
