Bishop Allen Biography

Source: Wikipedia

Bishop Allen is an American indie rock band based in Brooklyn, New York, composed of drummer Jack Delamitraux, guitarist Justin Rice, and guitarist Christian Rudder. Vocal duties are shared among the band's members. Bishop Allen, formed by Rudder and Rice who met while attending Harvard University, grew out of the pair's more humerous punk venture The Pissed Officers. During the spring of 2003 the pair recorded all of the instrumentation for their debut album, Charm School. Shortly thereafte...Read More >

Blog post image preview The past week has been a trying one for me. Finding out children going through their terrible twos are quite a handful to take care of would be the understatement of a lifetime. Throw into the mix I am taking classes in order to get my teaching license back up to par and when I am not watching my son I am reading pages of text and taking notes. It feels a lot like college again, college with responsibilities which is a different feeling from when I was at university the first... MORE

Here in Minnesota the weather is changing fast. Gone are the long hot days of summer, these have been replaced by the cool days of autumn. During the summer things always seem so upbeat, and the music I listened to usually reflected that. There was a steady supply of punk and hip hop music in my car. I always listened to it when driving, usually with the windows down.
In the past week I seem to be putting a lot of these albums back on the shelves, and in turn taking out the ... MORE

Blog post image preview Hello MOG Community, It is I rawkkiddo, and I seem to be back to where I once was a familiar face. This last month has been a tough one, spent a lot of time getting my teaching license up to par before the start of the school year. As it turned out I was a few hours short, and in turn did not get a placement for the 2007-2008 school year. This caused a great deal of stress in my life, and in turn I decided to just slip off to get things straightened out.
    It has been ... MORE

At first, there's foot-tapping. Then head-nodding. People look up from the bar, move in to the stage. Now foot stomping, and, wow - the kids in front of you have broken in to a full-on who-cares indie version of the twist. Bishop Allen, collectively, knows about energy. How to create it, to sustain it, to hook you on it. They use simple tools: a guitar with mangy strings, a discarded piano, a sweet & sour vocal that reaches and recedes. You can poke through thei... Man, what a great show last night. They played just about everything I wanted to hear, with the exception of 'Little Black Ache' and a few others. I suppose they couldn't have played everything.
I was less than thrilled with the venue, The Paper Heart. It had all these couches and chairs around the stage, like a doggone coffee house.
This was a rock show! There's no couches at a rock show!
The highlight was Bishop Allen playing 'Busted Heart' and then segueing right into... MORE

Bishop Allen won't blow your mind but their songs are too darn quirky and cute to ignore. Good bouncy summertime tunes. The Brooklyn pop quartet released an EP every month in 2006, garnering the group loads of attention from the likes of NPR and Rolling Stone. Turns out, all that work made for a great sophomore release (they debuted in 2003) called The Broken String, which will be available July 24 the on Dead Oceans label. To support their shiny little gems, the... MORE

Andrew Bujalski is a indie director that makes charming black and white films with friends and fellow filmmakers in the key roles. His first movie was Funny Ha Ha. Living in Lansing, MI and not really being up on my indie/cool/New York film directors I picked up this film coz it looked interesting and no awareness of who Bujalski was. His films have been compared to early Linklater (Slacker), early Jarmusch, and Cassavetes. It was a little hard to get used to at fi... MORE

_christian rudder_ this is christian rudder. he, along with justin rice, make up the heart and soul of Bishop Allen. if you are hip, you may remember christian in such projects as "Poor-Spelling Children Pay Dearly for 'Letters to Satan'" or the "Date My Sister Project" and others back in the late 1900's and the early 2000's when he used to work for the now defunct TheSpark.com. in college, i checked that page every day, found that i will die when i am 78, that my "... This is my first post. I registered this account weeks ago and finally got around to playing with this site. Pretty cool. I run an internet radio station called pat radio. You can find it at www.patradio.org. Give it a listen. Let me know if there's something you want to hear or an artist I should add. About my digital music collection: Many of my tunes, most of them actually, are loaded into a proprietary format for Ots DJ, this software I use to broadcast my... MORE

Bishop Allen's first album, "Charm School", is downright fantastic.
Their simplistic song-writing gives me chills it's so flawless, and their lyrics comfort me like an old friend or a cold beer. Justin and Christian have a chemistry like...well I won't say it. But listen, and you can make your own opinions. Give "Charm School" a chance; I admit I'm not a huge fan of the monthly album stuff they're doing this year, but don't most sophomore efforts suck anyway?... MORE

gah...i hate this band so many muches. seriously, it's just plain silly how much i hate this band. generally, i'm all "if something sux, i don't have to go blowing chunx all over the dang place." and i'd rather just bite my tongue and patiently wait for them to go away, but they're releasing a new e.p. every month this year, so at the start of every month i have to endure every blogger and their mom creaming their dandies over them. and i keep falling for it! i think, maybe i...
