Ben Folds is feeling a bit ambitious it seems. Inspired by the many university a cappella videos he found on YouTube of his music, Folds' new album, scheduled for spring '09 release, will be "a cappella versions of his music performed by the best university groups." Here's a couple I found just by typing "ben folds a cappella" in the You Tube Search box (University of Chicago's is off the hizoook!):
"Magic" University Of Chicago
"Still Fighting For It" University O... MORE
"Although the counterculture spawned many new mediums, it was the music scene (with its viable commodities: graphics, posters, magazines, and records) that brought the revolution and the corporation into face-to-face confrontation. The counterculture didn't possess the means or the infrastructure to distribute its wares. For a split second everything was new, pure and untarnished, before the scruples of the unifying ideology (freedom from reclaiming the individual and buil... MORE

"I was writing a much slower song, and it was the chorus. The instrumental part with the fluegelhorn was probably the only thing that we were really excited about when we left North Carolina. We'd been playing that together and it sounded finished and tight. There was a lot of editing going on in that song. It took a lot of turns and was a real evolution. There's a total Burt Bacharach rip-off section in it, fluegelhorn... MORE

Apparently, the song included in this post, "Kate," reminds R of me. He says it has reminded him of me since college. (Of course, after we had met.) I suppose I should say I'm flattered... Hahahaha! But, for the record, I don't smoke pot. I just enjoy getting plastered, is all. And, really, who doesn't? Right, right, right?
Compared with last week, this week in CDs is a little disappointing. There ares still some noteworthy releases, hower. Check them out: James Taylor - Covers Jennifer Hudson - Jennifer Hudson T.I. - Paper Trail Robin Thicke - Something Else Ben Folds - Way To Normal Todd Rundgren - Arena Faith Hill - Joy to the World Kellie Pickler - Kellie Pickler Joshua Radin - Simple Times Jack's Mannequin - The Glass Passenger Melissa Etheridge - A New Thought for Christmas ... But the real highlight of my Friday was wandering by MySpace and finding high-def video of the entire Ben Folds Five reunion show -- orchestrated to kick off MySpace's new Front To Back series -- waiting for me there. A completely brilliant show done up just right by the producers with interview clips and excellent videography of the show. Bliss, I tell you, bliss .

My friend Rob just alerted me of this, which was too cool not to share. On September 18, 2008, Ben Folds Five reunited for a once-in-a-lifetime performance of their final album "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner." Watch the concert below along with interviews with the band and artists who were influenced ...

Having spent several hours last night witnessing the slice of humanity that is an urban emergency room...got me trying to think of hospital-themed songs. I could only readily come up with two... Ben Folds Five's brilliantly brief "Hospital Song"; regrettably little more than a transitional piece on "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner"; but a dramatically evocative one nonetheless...perfectly capturing the flourescent depression and solitary silence of an exte... Warning: The Following Article May Contain Small Amounts of Freaking Out So it’s been nearly a full decade since Ben Folds Five disbanded after their last release, The Unofficial Biography of Reinhold Messner. Since then, titular musician Ben Folds has gone on to even more massive success, especially among the college and MySpace crowds, releasing several [...]

BEN LEE IS NOT SEXY
I've never been a fan. I enjoyed 'Catch My Disease', when I was in a chirpy over-happy mood, 'Cigarettes Will Kill You' was also listenable, but now? Ben Lee is not an option.
I was wandering around JB HiFi today on my fortnightly scan-for-new-exciting-cheap-music, and they were playing Ben Lee's new album. Hmm. It sounds a lot like the old albums...but with more country...Anywho, it got me thinking back to a magazine... MORE
Dear Mog, I have enjoyed your community of music freaks like myself. Your acceptance of another audiophile blow hard like myself. You made me believe that I could make friends, post and post and respond to posts to my hearts delight, and my status would raise to "blazing hot!". Alas, I am still "under the radar."
It is my pleasure to write about what I love, to learn about music I haven't heard, and debate the finer points of rock n' roll, but is it all falling on d... MORE

I made a myspace bulletin today, all about music. Yes stab me, please. I think it was half decent, questions included sad songs nostalgic songs fave albums etc. But anyway. Not the greatest day today. Only in history do I avoid the daily music debate; with the hard rock/jazz man Chris, rap man Morgan and avid anti-emo boagn Dion. (I hate to say I'm a music snob, but when talking to these "manly" men I can only take Chris seriously, and thats only because of his fantast... MORE
