Sure, everyone likes a little drama at Festivals. You don't go to a festival with ~50,000 plus people without expecting something frisky. And we also expect a bit of beginner hang-ups coming from the production companies running the mammoth festival newcomer Outside Lands. But we were really dumfounded and depressed when we looked at the map to see that BECK, the infamous and raucous live musician, was set to play in a small stage on the outer bank of the festival groun... Let’s face it; Beck needed a return to form. His last two long players ("Guerolito" and "The Information") were cursed with so many weighty inconsistencies that even the most loyal followers must have questioned his wisdom. Fortunately, owing to his immense chameleonic abilities, one knew Hansen wouldn’t stand still for long. The Danger Mouse produced "Modern Guilt" is his most conventional, melody driven recording since 2002’s outstanding "Sea Change", discarding the s... MORE
I'm really digging Modern Guilt so far, and this track, "Gamma Ray," has a killer riff. Dig it if you can.
ok i want everyone to know in e-world i spent 5 years in prison for drugs first got on the internet in 2003 i NEVER knew this would be a life style my parents were so kind as to let me move into their basement upon my release from prison and i have never left i do not want a roomate and life is comfy all your illusions of PIMP world are dead now this is why i shy away from any "meets" and such i am just po white trash tryin' to make life day by day and struggl... I can't decide if he's channeling a 70's rocker (can't put my finger on who though) or if he's been hanging out with Tommy Sunshine too much. Either way, I like the song "Gamma Ray" a lot, especially because it sounds a lot like the tunes on Mellow Gold which is my fave Beck album. Here's the new video, let me know what you think: Of course, the song really is Beck through and through. He stays true to originality on his new album Modern Guilt. But for... MORE
Beck - Modern Guilt
(Interscope, 2008)
3.5 out of 10
A friend and fellow Beck-listener grabbed a leak of Modern Guilt, and neither of us noticed the irony between title and situation until I began writing this review. One problem is that the phrase "modern guilt" isn't nearly evocative enough either on its own or with Beck's contextual guidance to make an impression but that it should mean something. Another problem can be summed up by my friend's reaction to listening t... MORE
The street cars were filled to the brim with braided and bangled urban hippies as they passed thirsty, hopeful concertgoers, screaming on the platform. I think three J street cars passed me before I could squeeze my tiny frame through the crowd.
By the time I made it to the park I had completely missed my little press meeting, and was about to miss Beck, so I scrammed to get my ticket and

As Beck's "Gamma Ray" off his latest Modern Gult graces MOG homepage a pixelated version emerges of the track:
...but I only got to see about five of them. Stages were too spread out, sets were too long, bands were too few.
I'd like to say I'm one of those people who "understand" Beck, and not just that he's another hottie with talent. It seems like anyone who knows real artists like this only know that one single... like Beck with "Loser". People are so annoying. If you're gonna be like that, don't even say you like the artist, cause then us who really do get really pissed.
Beck, the chameleon of the alternative world has done it again with his new album "Modern Guilt." Hailed as the return to Beck, the album returns to Beck's fun and flouncy style, flirting with technology while still maintaining a sense of maturity in the face of the fading decade. Mouthfuls of descriptions aside, the vinyl release of "Modern Guilt" is due in stores July 22. Sick of hearing about re-releases on vinyl? Beck's covered that base to by breaking ground to inclu... After catching my breath and recovering from my little death, I had a little rhythmic leap in my step, so I reached for my Deluxe Edition of Odelay. I threw it on and skipped immediately to Derelict. I've had this song in my head ever since I discovered the brilliant Beck outtake Sorrow. Beck rules. I so connect with him now a days. Probably even more than I did in the nineties. He's like a spaced out-outsider. Someone who's unafraid of being eccentric and eclectic. He... MORE
I'm still sick but feeling better; so much that I dug out this vintage Mellow Gold era b-side to share with all my Mogger amigos. I'm still in my Beck mode and this is a personal favorite of all his non album tracks. Corvette Bummer reminds me of my dreadful corporate record store job at a mall in San Antonio. I had this asshole of a boss who had no business running a record shop. Everytime he went home, it was party time at Hastings. We'd crank out the jams and even ma... MORE
