I recently read (or, more precisely, skimmed) the chatty, spottily written, anecdotal memoir by Charles Strouse, composer of (among other things) Bye, Bye Birdie and Annie. Birdie was the first Broadway musical to incorporate rock and roll, or the idea of rock and roll, at a time when it was considered a passing fad.
