With all the recent posting on Alejandro Escovido and his new album produced by Tony Visconti, I thought I’d highlight Alejandro’s choice use of cover songs. It’s a tradition that in every encore he does cover versions. While you’d expect a man who’s lived and fought through punk, country, and Texas tinged rock and roll to choose Iggy, The Ramones, The Stones, Bowie, the Velvets, and Hank Williams, plus nods to his LA days with excellent interpretations of The Gun Club a... Word of advice: if you want an idea of what heaven will be like, go see Alejandro Escovedo because his shows are heaven on earth. I've only been to two, but I promise you the man does not have off nights. As soon as he hits that stage he is on, he is in charge, he will kick your ass, and you will love every minute of it. He is one of the most gifted and exhilarating musicians I have ever had the privilege of seeing. The first time I saw him was at a dank hole in the wall ... MORE
According to www.demconvention.com, the official Web site of the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Alejandro Escovedo will perform live at the convention tonight some time between 5:30 and 6 p.m., MST. FYI ...
The new Alejandro Escovedo album is excellent. Alejandro was in the '70s punk band The Nuns, then played guitar in Rank & File before launching a long and creative solo career which continues. Dig this one.
I purchased my first album based purely on a Mogger's recommendation a few days ago. I can't add anything to Mike The Knife's perfect review. http://mog.com/Mike_the_Knife/blog_post/172158 Thank God he's not dead. This world needs Alejandro Escovedo. To hear music this carefully crafted, this damn cared about, is a truly unexpected treat. 8/10 Thanks Mike...I owe you one.
While waiting for my LP of Real Animal to arrive at my local record shop, I have had to make due with what ever tracks I have been able to scavenge from the net at the moment. I am kind of a late comer to the Alejandro Escovedo party... but not really, as I have been a fan of his past fans bands, The Nuns and Rank'n'File for some time... but after reading a lot about him and his records I picked up The Boxing Mirror while on vacation in Hawaii several years back. The tr... MORE
According to record label EMI, Alejandro Escovedo will perform Tuesday night as part of the Democratic National Convention Committee’s program featuring Senator Hillary Clinton, the evening’s headline speaker. Escovedo is scheduled to take the stage at 5:45 p.m. MST and perform People (We're Only Gonna Live So Long) from his recently-released album Real Animal. "These are unbalanced times, and great change is needed," Escovedo said in a press statement. "To be included i... MORE
I'm recovering from the end of year picnic and mom announces that its time for a family walk. Dressed, leashes on, find a Jawbreaker record (DGC first pressing/colored vinyl) and a Lenny Bruce box that Rhino released in the 90s that are gathering dust, and off we go. Get to Amoeba get $25 credit and grab "Real Animal." A lot of good songs: Smoke, Sensitive Boys (Is this Young Americans) Nuns Song (remember Hate Holiday? Great San Francisco band from the early 90s, ... MORE
It finally arrived... my LP of Real Animal, only it's really 2 LP, and it includes two tracks that are not on the CD.... I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but it looks great, with it's crisp white cover and gate fold opens to reveal the lyrics... I know that it's gonna get dinged up and handled, but that's what it's for.... more to come.
I'd heard about this Alejandro Escovedo cover for a while - apparently the Stones' "Beast of Burden" turns up regularly in his rock band shows -- but never actually heard the song. Here's a live version with Chuck Prophet chipping in...nice.
If you found me lost on your porch one night, Would you take me in and hold me tight? And wrap a dream around my head, In case I tumble out of bed? Just one more time (chorus, repeated four times) If you found me hanging without a prayer, Would you cut me down and lay me there? And wash the sins off of my hands, So I might get another chance? Just one more time (chorus, repeated four times) If I lost the buttons on my coat, And I couldn’t find the go... MORE
