Two nights ago Architecture In Helsinki came to Santa Cruz. They played at a teeny tiny venue called the Rio, which is more of a movie theater than anything else, but despite the awkward arrangement I found them to be much more entertaining in concert than on any CD. These guys had personality. They had originality. They had stage presence. At one point at least twenty fans (including one in a silver jumpsuit) had stage presence too. The roadies looked more worried about instruments and cords getting trampled than anything else. All in good fun though. Although the name of the band was inspired by a city in Finland, these guys hail from Melbourne, Australia. If Kellie Sutherland's koala sweatshirt wasn't enough of a clue, their adorable accents surely blew their cover.
Here is the last song they played, which has been stuck in my brain ever since:

Neat and nifty gig review Lilja. I seem to miss all the bands I'm keen on when they're in London so I'm very envious of you right now.
If I may share this little Take-away concert with you... (yes those guys from La Blogothèque have done it again). Just check out those mates of AIH tune their improvised human rhythm section:
