great stuff, recently picked up Ash Wednesday and just haven't been disappointed with that album one bit.

Almost gave up on this. First, the sad world aspect is so apparent, I don't need it rubbed in anymore. Next, the odd syncopation of the guitar I found distracting. Maybe that was the point. But, that being said, by the time the lovely background vocal comes (who is that?) in I was hooked. A very unique sound. Oops, now I'll listen to the other side of the tragedy. Thanks

I also enjoy this.
His sound is reminiscent of Josh Ritter and Jose Gonzalez.
Will have to pick this album up soon.

You are right. "Emile's Vietnam..." was a better introduction for me. It was very visionistic ...Loudon Wainwright and a Todd Rudgren song "Expresso" popped up as if cued. Weird 'cause I don't see much similarity. Powerful sounds

Outstanding. John like.
If I may add to the comparisons, I'd liken him to Damien Rice. Definitely going on my increasingly long wish list.
