Tunng, Geoff Farina and Brown Bird Live in Cambridge Middle East Cambridge, MA USA October 25, 2007 by Jennifer Kelly
Who ever thought that Tunng would be such a party?
The British band Tunng has been steadily moving away from it origins in delicate electronic folk towards a poppier, more exuberant sound. The newest album Good Arrows bobs and weaves giddily, its hooky melodies couched in three- and four-part harmonies and anchored by a steady pulsing beat. Still, it's a huge surprise when the band takes over what has been, up to this point, a brooding sort of bill, slashing out the three chords that open "Take" like closet Who fans, an enormous sampled bass drum holding down a four-on-the-floor pounding that continues, more or less, through the whole set. You could find pockets of wistfulness in Tunng's performance, little intervals of whimsical, folk-referencing delicacy. But, damn, you could also dance to most of this, and a good part of the crowd, drunk and rowdy as Boston college students often are, ended up lurching and clapping in time.

Thanks...it's a very pretty place, but kind of dull, as I'm sure you know.
Are you in Madrid now?
Tunng is well worth checking out. I was thinking I liked their earlier stuff better until I saw the show and now it all makes sense.

oh i know! there are lots of local artisians and painters there. its very nice right now with the leaves, of course, probably inspiring some of those very same artists.
I will get back to you with my initial reaction to Tunng after I have a chance to dive into it, after work maybe
