MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist: Komar & Melamid/Dave Soldier
Track: The Most Unwanted Song

I'm so bored.  I've wanted to post this for a little while now.  This is The Most Unwanted Music.  I don't know about you but I say it's the most wanted!  You can read about it here:  http://www.artsjournal.com/quickstudy/2008/04/yo_yo.html

"The most unwanted music is over 25 minutes long, veers wildly between loud and quiet sections, between fast and slow tempos, and features timbres of extremely high and low pitch, with each dichotomy presented in abrupt transition. The most unwanted orchestra was determined to be large, and features the accordion and bagpipe (which tie at 13% as the most unwanted instrument), banjo, flute, tuba, harp, organ, synthesizer (the only instrument that appears in both the most wanted and most unwanted ensembles). An operatic soprano raps and sings atonal music, advertising jingles, political slogans, and "elevator" music, and a children's choir sings jingles and holiday songs. The most unwanted subjects for lyrics are cowboys and holidays, and the most unwanted listening circumstances are involuntary exposure to commercials and elevator music. Therefore, it can be shown that if there is no covariance--someone who dislikes bagpipes is as likely to hate elevator music as someone who despises the organ, for example--fewer than 200 individuals of the world's total population would enjoy this piece."

Sweet.  Figures you'd be on top of it Tyler.  I got it the day it was posted on BoingBoing but I thought I would save it for one of those days where it seemed like everything was doomed to failure.  Today was that day.  I'm waiting for remixes of this wonderful gem.

Sam and if by "hate-it" you mean the Lemurian catch phrase for "hella awesome" then yes. ;p

I actually thought of you when I posted it, I figured if anyone could appreciate kids singing "at Wal-Mart" it would be you.

Rawk and Contra - I thought of Harold and Kumar as well.

CeeOhBee - You are correct.  It is the greatest.

indiepixie - She hit the hail on the ned.

great premise, i'll say that much!  i'm only a about 30 seconds into it, but so far so good...  it would be mighty interesting if this topic could be converted to a weekly theme on MOG.  don't know how it work, but i guess something along the lines of posting the tunes that make everyone around us groan when we play them with fresh delight...

that would last about a week or 2 tops.

Mollifire - I'm going with that might last a couple of weeks.  Although people were doing it on Multiply and for all I know it's still going on.  I don't know if I can bear to post Morris Day and The Time's "Jerk Out" on my page though.

Mike - Super Geeeen-ius!

tommyc - It was definitely the off key rapping opera singer that hooked me.  Those kids are pretty awesome too.  I think your right about finding the 200.  Got just a handful of them already here.

I think we might have been psychically linked about this. I listened to it not days before you posted about it. (Well, days, not "not days," but not many days!) The entire "Most Unwanted Song" is a complete joy to hear. For real. Every minute.

Spencer I got it I think like a month or two ago but I never listened to it.  I'm glad I finally did.  It's so amazing.  I wanna check out more by these guys.  If this is any indication their other music must be pretty cool.

like a country Mike Oldfield... can't go wrong here - if you had to pay me to listen to the most liked song, I'd ask to be paid in playing the most unwanted song instead ;)
