MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

on some blog somewhere today, someone mentioned "hotel" was their favorite broken social scene song and i couldn't recall which song that was so i typed it into my little itunes search thingie and sure enuff, there it was...along with several other songs which made a perfect little "hotel" mix. i got death cab's "brothers on a hotel bed," leonard cohen's "chelsea hotel #2," the silver jews' "the farmer's hotel," and wilco's "hotel arizona." sure, i had to filter out about a thousand neutral milk hotel songs as well as the entire "yankee hotel foxtrot" album, but that wasn't too difficult.

years ago i had the idea to make an all-monkey mix but i never got around to it. i gave it a whirl in itunes and came up with these gems (many of which i had completely forgotten):

daniel johnston - "like a monkey in a zoo" devendra banhart - "little monkey" fuck - "monkey does his thing" jad fair and yo la tengo - "minnesota man claims monkey bowled perfect game" joanna newsom - "monkey and bear" pixies - "monkey gone to heaven" preston school of industry - "monkey heart and the horse's leg" the spinanes - "i love that party with the monkey kitty"

i love that spinanes song!

feel free to pick a word and post your playlist...here!:

This is fun. Here's my "spider" list:

"Spider's House" Califone "Spiderman in the Flesh" The Country Teasers "LIttle Yellow Spider" Devendra Banhart "Giant Spiders" Devin Davis "Spider" The Little Killers "Dear Flies, Love Spider" The Low Lows "Spider Cider" Man Man "Spider's Web" Mission of Burma "Said the Spider to the Fly" the pAper chAse

Pretty good, but I can't believe I don't have the Ramones' "Spiderman" or the Who's "Boris the Spider" on iTunes. That's criminal.

VERY weird, I also thought of doing a monkey play list. I also had The Smartest Monkeys by XTC and Monkey by Low.
