Rumors to the contrary, this video is not unavailable. Petri dish.
All things considered, I'd have to award Elton John the crown of My Favorite Musical Artist. Not that I'm a fanatic or anything. I've barely scratched the surface of his recorded output, and as far as I'm concerned he could have stopped recording in the late seventies. But that string of hits from the early- to mid-70s is pretty hard to beat. I can put on his first two greatest hits collection any time, and after decades of use they still have the dew of life on them. Here he is on some TV show, not lip-syncing but giving us a unique glimpse of the spontaneous Reginald Dwight in his prime.

I agree that there has been nothing much in the last 20 years from elton- but the seventies elton makes up for everything he has done since. Such a prolific magnificent body of work. He barely released a bad song in the 70s

hhmmmmm.....
Seventies era Elton was certainly the apex of his career. He and Bernie Taupin churned out a remarkable string of hits.
And yet.........

It's hard to fault the video that works. (Is it the same as the video above it that is "no longer available"?) His song and his performance work as well. Had he been little-noticed, the 1970s critics would have perhaps been less ambivalent about him.
