Well, I made it to Oregon alive; however, I'd have to say I found the real challenge to be making it back in one piece. But I am in fact back. I'm a bit worn out, but believe that is a true sign of a kick ass trip: when your very body reaches the point when it can't handle all that you're taking in, well, that's how you know you've got yourself a winner.
Vacation, from Latin vacātiō, vacātiōn-, freedom from occupation. It's exactly that, a break from the "real world" in which one, like myself, works five days a week with the weekend to relax and explore. How much exploring can one really do in two days?! Not a whole heck of a lot that's for sure. This past vacation was a wild trip, one of much exploration and in every sense of the way.
I'm having a difficult time becoming assimilated with the working world again, but it must be done...at least for now. The fact that the warm weather months of the year are here helps quite a bit, as well as the "one-a-day-beer." And since it's summer time I've decided the "sad bastard" music has to go. I've hit my limit and now I'm up for music with a more whimsical style, kind of like Of Montreal. For instance, in their song The Party's Crashing Us the line "Oh well we made love like a pair of black wizards," now that's the kind of nonsense I'm looking for ha. Strange, right? But you have to admit kind of fun.
This song is one I enjoy, but the fact that it resembles the Outback Steakhouse ad ruins it for me. Did Outback rip them off? Or even worse, did Of Montreal sell out to Outback? Quite possibly there is no real connection, but for me there is, and now that it exists I can't listen to this song in the same way. I'm sorry if by mentioning this I've now ruined it for you too.
Cheers.

I must confess my ignorance in Outback Steakhouse. Whatever they may be, they can't that healthy considering the most common meat in the outback is the roadkill.
Anyway, it's always with wistful eyes and a soupçon of envy that I listen to/read about people's holidays. The best past of "vacātiō" is indeed the void of work. The best of any trip is the journey. Ulysses would tell you, it's not the return to one's familiar places and faces that will kill you it's the memories you've left behind.
Have a lovely week :)

Bartleby, I must say you hit the nail right on the head. It is in fact the memories I've left behind on my little trip that could kill me and not the return to the place of familiar people, places, actions and routines. I think that's what I like most about vacation is the separation from all things predictable and how a simple trip to Trader Joe's can turn into a mini adventure in a new place.
As for Outback Steakhouse-yuck. I've never been, nor do I ever plan to go, but their dumb jingle has seeped into my head. The sad thing is, is that I hardly ever watch TV, but that darn jingle has found it's way to my head and distorted this song for me.
Thanks for the well wishes for the week, you do the same! ;o)

I love this song and enjoyed it over my weekend too. It stuck in my head all weekend. I am glad I can't think of the Outback Steakhouse song :) So glad your vacation was good, Nella!

Thanks Ms. Brittany ;o) It was a good time foo shoo. However, I've been away from MOG for a bit, so what other fun music are you listening to these days?!
My Trusted MOGs
well, i just bought a few new albums, fi-na-lly! i'm currently balancing MGMT and Santogold with The Kills and Bonnie Prince Billy. The Kills is really surprisingly to my liking. I can't get enough of Estelle either and...Lil Wayne's album leaked! (i haven't listened yet)

° ° ° You don't have to reach the point where you cannot handle it to get a kick ass trip, going to the other side of the road sometimes is a kick ass trip in 5 minutes of time. Now if you've found part or all of what you were looking for the trip is a winner, and you are a winner too. But when my body reaches such a point, i know of one thing, i'm a winner for a warm place to sleep a s a p :)))
"Vacatio", freedom from anything, gave the family tree to words like "vacuum-cleaner" or "vacant lot" or "vacating", all linked by their sense of emptiness, but not in any way a needlessness. To have us get full of new things it's better to get the old things out some way, vacating the old to bring in the new. I believe that is something anyone should be allowed, regardless of their financial power, from time to time, pull off, plug it all out and go wander around. So many of our mankind's ancestors were nomads and travellers...
"How much exploring can one really do in two days ?" Almost nothing, this is the minimal amount of time one needs just to keep in pace and move with the job and the everydays joys and problems. And at the very moment where one would be ready to start to explore, was it the inner self or the wild outside, splaaaatschh, it's time to get back to the office.
Hard time fitting into the "work" environment ? we must be a few billions here :)) And it is always especially a hard one when the trip or vacations were so fantastic as your trip seems to have been a one. I'd add it is part of the process, because the trip was so rich it has to be hard to come back to "normality", or it could mean that the trip's effects already vanished right after you returned :))
Warm weather, until now is not with us here in Europe, we are under below average temperatures and over average rains currently. Quite unusual for early June. But it is always time to put sadness in the cellar until the next winter :))
"Oh well we made love like a pair of black wizards," why not ? why can't wizards (black or white) make love ? it must be interesting to see them incant for eternal pleasure or endless duration, casting and exchanging spells one on another just for climax's sake, do they also have "blackmagic" porn of some... sorts ? :)))
This song is cool, soft piece of music for peaceful moments, or to chillout after a hard day at the job. I had no idea about possible link with Outback ad, as veg-eater i have no interest in these places other than wishing they wouldn't exist :))
But i'm afraid they actually sold it, i've found many leads to that :

And the fact the band refused to comment about this "affair" just put's it over the top, i've lost my respect for these guys. Still like some of their music, but for sure i'm not gonna buy their CD's, "Lord p-2-p" save us from selling our soul to the admakers :))
Euh, returning the "I'm sorry if by mentioning this I've now ruined it for you too." :)))
