Fair warning: this is not near the fun read the others were, because for me his was not a fun day. Well, let's get to it. My alarm woke me at 5:30 this morning, although I had no reason to wake up at that hour. I tried to get back to sleep, but only slept in fits and starts until 7, when I had to wake up. At this point, I should have realized that this would not be my day. After a quick breakfast, it was time to set up for the big activity of the day, a small Renaiss... MORE

Among the people here on MOG that like the band Ride, I stick out like a sore thumb. Why? you ask. Well, here's why: this isn't my favorite Ride album:
Nowhere is generally acknowledged as Ride's masterwork. I'm in no position to argue with that; I love Nowhere, it's a fantastic album, and I have extolled its virtues elsewhere.
However, since Nowhere came out in late 1990, its existence was unknown to me. I had only heard _of_ Ride, but hadn't ever heard them... MORE
Now, let me state, for the record, that I luuuuuuurve Ride's early output. Everything from Going Blank Again backwards totally works for me. The cascades and sheets of guitar noise, the inventive drum patterns, the vocals harmonies, combined together, make my heart go pitter-patter.
Good thing too, because when I listen to the lyrics, I get thrown out of my reverie. Sorry guys, but they completely redefine dumb lyrics to me.

can i just say that i always thought Ride to be a so-so band? I don't know why because their sound has always been congruous with what i like, i've just never taken a strong interest in any of their songs. The second week in the trade i got "Leave Them All Behind" by Ride.
The first track, obviously, is the way way way way way too long "Leave Them All Behind." I will say this is a good track, and if you watch the video you'll really see how good it is, because it's the e... MORE

After GSVB I've rediscovered the wonderful and unique Ride.
Never did see these guys play (which was by all accounts a sonic assault) but I did love Nowhere - so much so I had the t-shirt as a youngster. They came out from the media lead "shoegazing" scene, of which most of those bands never really did anything. Only Chapterhouse or My Bloody Valentine (who were around way before that) warrant a mention, with Lush being more indie pop.
