(The Girlfriend, Richie and myself cross a deserted football field to get to the edge of Malahide Castle. When we reach the main trek...)
Security Guard: (points twenty feet away) You have to go back there and get searched.
Richie: Can you not search us?
Security Guard: No. Not my job.
(We walk over to the search guys.)
Me: I was told to come back here and get searched.
Search Guy: (Shakes head) Only people with bags.
(I walk back to the Security Guard.)

Too Far Gone wouldn’t be officially released until the Freedom album in 1989, yet here’s a version from 14 years earlier with Poncho Sampedro adding a tasty mandolin part.
It's the summer of 1976 and I'm a 16 year old working as a construction laborer and it's one hell of a hot day. Suddenly I hear the first notes of this song and drop everything and head for the radio and crank it up. Instantly recognizable as a Neil Young song, I was thrilled. Then I found out it was the Stills Young Band!! I kept checking and bought that album when my record store got the first ones in! Great song and great album!
I had to overdub harmony on "caroline - oh... MORE

Apologies for listing this under Neil Young but if I listed it under my name nobody would see it!
And besides Neil Young is a big influence on both my own and my friend's music so give this one a chance!

My cover of this dark and disturbing song from Neil Young's On The Beach album. I have read that the song was inspired by the Manson family and in fact at one concert in 1983 Neil Young dedicated the song to Charles Manson.
I never play my electric guitar but decided to use it for this one. It is a very rough unrehearsed take and the "solos" are completely made up on the spot. Playing electric is something I need to get used to.... MORE
A beautiful song from the 1988 album This Notes For You. That album contains many great songs. I was lucky enough to see the supporting tour.Thsi is my solo acoustic cover with improvised harmonica.
What a beautiful song by Ian Tyson. I love Ian's original rendition of this classic but my first exposure was Neil Young's cover from his Comes A Time album. I learned to play the song by ear back then and it still is one of my favorites. I also enjoyed hearing Neil Young tell the story about his first exposure to Ian's original on the Heart Of Gold DVD. Absolutely a stunning live performance on that DVD. Young reunites all the Gone With The Wind orchestra players to play... MORE
This song is on the 1978 Neil Young album Comes A Time and for me it stands out from the rest of the tracks because it departs from the highly polished Nashville sound he created and is instead recorded with Crazy Horse.
Linda Ronstadt actually had a radio hit with her cover back then however she left out some lyrics (hydraulic wipers pumping till the window glistens...) on hers.... MORE
