Hey all - been a while!

Jazz/Funk/Soul organist Jimmy McGriff passed away this week, so I'll spin one for him... and thank him for this outstanding cover design. Damn!

"Groove Grease" sounds and looks mighty fine. Here's another cut, "Maggie," from his 1994 album Right Turn on Blue.

I'm only three songs in to my first listen to the upcoming My Morning Jacket album, and so far it's not too bad for a Prince album.

Thing is, I don't like Prince.

What the hell, guys?

EDIT: I take it back, there's a good dose of Mike Mills' REM filler tunes and even a little Bread/Air Supply.

No, not Baby Huey (although the afro is similar)... Baby Charles.

Dionne Charles fronts the band "Baby Charles," out of Brighton, UK, shows a love for The Meters here, and that's always OK by me. On other tracks, I hear a dip in the Dap-Tone pool. I say, "come on in, the water's funn-kayyyyy!"

Here's a track off their 2008 eponymous debut.

Very, very groovy. I missed their album launch party at Pigalle in London some weeks ago. -- They did a pretty sassy cover of Arctic Monkeys' "I Look You Good On The Dance Floor" which got many people confused. Loving it.

Thanks for funking up my night.

This is so very fine. I like music with a sense of what has come before, you know? This harkens back to old school(s) from the Fabulous Flames to The Isleys, and Ms Charles has listened well to Aretha, but also maybe Mahalia in the long notes. Thanks for this buddy. Your battin' 1000 so far, I think. (They old graymatter ain't what it used to be, ain't what it used to be, ain't what it used to be.)
