Back in February, the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Phil Lesh and Lesh's current band of Friends - Jackie Greene, John Molo and Steve Molitz - got together for a one-off gig at San Fran's Warfield in support of presidential candidate Barack Obama. According to the FoxNews (the irony!), the three living Dead members, including drummer Bill Kreutzmann and along with Allman Brothers/Gov't Mule guitarist Warren Haynes taking over for the late Jerry Garcia, will get back together for another one-off fundraiser. (Kreutzmann didn't play the February gig, thus it wasn't coined an official The Dead show, the band's moniker sans Garcia.) The jam is rumored to take place October 13th, either in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. If all goes well a summer 2009 tour, the group's first since 2004, will ensue.

Also, I found this video on YouTube. It aired during the February gig. Jesus...Obama even knows them by name!

Oh lord..I dunno if that's a good idea. I think it was a wise (and respectful) choice to retire the name. I hope they let dead Dead's lie. Getback together to show support for Obama by all means, but leave the name alone.

This is great.

Awww, how they really be the Dead with Jerry? They will have to try really hard to suck as much as the did in the old days. Wait... I'm picturing Zombie Garcia, bits of flesh and heroin hypos dropping from his arms as he lurches around the stage, thin at last....
