Getting flooded by emails on why John McCain's pick for VP Alaskan governor Sarah Palin is a bad one? (I sure have.) Below are several reasons why from Alaskan blue-blood and Portugal. The Man. guitarist/vocalist John Gouley. Gouley relays an important lesson he learned living up in Wasilla, AK the same town Palin was mayor of for years. The lesson, which can be read here, was taken from an early childhood memory of a moose-hunting expedition Gouley went on with his dad.
" 'Because we don’t need it' was something that has been taught to me every day of my life." Gouley states of being brought up in Alaska. He then voices that the attention Palin is getting is undeserved as she has only been Governor of the State of Alaska for two years and mayor of Wasilla, a town of 5,000 at the time. Taking this into account Gouley made a list of reasons why, from his standpoint and having grown up in Alaska, Palin is a bad choice. The $15 million on a sports center that put a city into debt got me. Like America needs any more people who are going to be putting us into debt.
"Because we don’t need it." John Gouley
- We don’t need drilling in some of our most beautiful and untouched land. We need to work towards options. We should be investing and working towards clean fuels. We don’t need to be draining our planet of every last drop before moving on to the next. Sarah Palin disagrees
- We needed votes to add the polar bear to the endangered species list. (I know, I know, that polar bear rug would really bring the room together!). Sarah Palin disagreed
- We don’t need aerial hunting… Again. We do NOT need this. I don’t know of any true Alaskan that feels it is good sport to shoot an animal from a plane. Sarah Palin disagrees
- We don’t need book burners and censors. Sarah Palin pushed to get the librarian of Wasilla fired when certain books were not removed from the public library. Who else in history has banned books? Not very good company is it?
- We don’t need more debts. Palin spent 15 million on a new sports center in the valley, leaving the small town of Wasilla, Alaska in debt to the amount of 22 million. (That’s 22 million more than the debt she took on when taking on this lovely playtime as mayor.) 15 million just for a new sports center.
- We don’t need family feuds interfering with duties. I know you feel your ex-brother-in-law was a dick… but trying to get him fired based on this may cause a little trouble. Sarah?
- We don’t need another vote against gay marriage. This is just standard every day equal rights being overlooked. Sarah Palin disagrees.
- We don’t need to overlook global warming. Science can now tell us "Yup. That is happening." Not my words, that is science speak. Sarah Palin disagrees.
- We don’t need a wolf in sheep’s clothing… or a sheep in wolves clothing, depending on how you look at it. She has billed her self as this overly average "hockey mom" and it is just not what I see. I see the sport hunter, the censor, choice taker, the revelations reader, and the high school cheerleader. It is endlessly embarrassing to watch people fall all over this idea. This is not my Alaska. The Alaska I know.
- What we do need is love and respect for one another and respect for the world we live in.
In other P.TM news, the bands release their new album Censored Color on September 16, 2008. A fall tour kicks off October 14th in Fresno, CA. Wintersleep and Earl Greyhound will open.
American collector Daniel Boucher shelled out $493,708 or £280,000, at the Fame Bureau's "It's More Than Rock And Roll" auction in London yesterday, for the 1965 Fender Stratocaster Jimi Hendrix set a flame at his '67 Astoria Finsbury Park concert. Hendrix suffered minor burns from the onstage antic. Hendrix's then press officer, Tony Garland, had stashed the guitar in his parent's garage. His nephew found it earlier this year.

To be quite honest, I think it's worth more - closer to a million. Anyone agree?
Even the buyer, Boucher, admitted, "I thought I'd have to pay a little bit more for it, actually." Boucher then added, "I am going to play it," which makes me sort of hate him.
Maybe it's the recession, but I also thought the original Rolling Stones lips logo should have fetched more than it did last week. Wasn't there a time when these type of things fetched more at auctions? Perhaps I'm thinking of all the Beatles/John Lennon stuff.
On that note, in the same auction yesterday, the Beatles first contract with famed manger Brian Epstein, which sports the John Hancocks of all four members fetched almost as much as Hendrix's guitar - a cool £240,000 ($423,313.) Another Beatles relic, the hand-carved lyrics for "Sexy Sadie" off The Beatles' White Album, sold for £32,000 ($56,441.)
Also sold was Jim Morrison's last notebook. it went for £58,000 ($102,303.)

this is not the guitar burned at monterey. this was burned in england.
David's right, and it's the pic from the Monterey Fest that's burned in all our minds. Now it THAT Strat was up for auction I bet it would fetch a LOT more!
In my own personal effort to make the Kings of Leon as big as they are in the UK here in the states, here is the first batch of homemade movies the band have released leading up to the Septemebr 23rd release of their new album Only By The Night. They're just like regular dudes, but with a Southern drawl.

I hope someone finds out which library books she disapproved of.
Why do you even care who that evil McCain picked as his running mate? I mean - you're (ooops, I mean "we're") all voting for the saintly Obama anyway.
